• Mammals that can be found in the Philippines. Philippine woolly wing Philippine tarsier, or maomag

    29.06.2022

With the set of groups in the Middle Kingdom, things have not been going very well lately, and God himself ordered to move further south and east in my study of the Asian part of the world.

The route I chose is the following:

Novosibirsk - Vladivostok - Singapore - Manila - Palawan Island (Philippines) - Hong Kong - Macau - Novosibirsk.

He (the route) began to look like this due to the numerous sales of air tickets.

For example, the section Vladivostok - Singapore, with a transfer in Hong Kong, cost me only 10,000 rubles. Well, how can you resist? Other flights also indulged in low cost. Flying within Asia is generally cheap. You only need to catch one of the sales on local low-cost airlines, and for this, in turn, you need to constantly monitor the sites of several airlines for a long time.

    Singapore.

In my opinion, everything has already been written about this miracle city. I will announce my opinion about a three-day stay in this city-state.

I did not apply for a visa, since 96-hour visa-free transit is provided for citizens of the Russian Federation. In principle, this time is enough to explore the main attractions of Singapore.

I would like to especially note the airline "Singapore Airlines". Flight Hong Kong - Singapore, I mastered the largest Airbus A-380. Flying it is pure pleasure. The level of comfort in the local "economy class" is much superior to our domestic "business class" in everything.

In my opinion, the statement that Singapore is very clean city, a bit overpriced. The city center is polished, but it is worth visiting the Indian quarter - and everything will become clear. Dirty and stink.

Everyone smokes only in designated areas. These places can be identified by the presence of urns in them. How unusual and wild!

Prices in Singapore are very high for everything. After China, it was very unpleasant for me to pay 15-20 singadollars (1 dollar - 27 rubles) for lunch or dinner. And this is in an ordinary eatery. I didn’t drink beer at all, because 250 rubles for a jar of this drink is crazy price!!!

    Where have I been...

Sightseeing tour by bus around the city, swept on the local Ferris wheel, the "Magic Gardens" of Marina Bay, the beaches of Sentosa Island, which I reached by cable car, and, of course, the casino of Singapore!

The casino at the Marina Bay Hotel left the most pleasant impressions. This is both the environment and the outcome of the Poker Game. I won't reveal how much I won, but Singapore cost me free...

By the way... Not a bad option for traveling. I arrived, admired the sights, rested, played in a casino, won - I left with my friends. But for such an option, the main thing is the last ... Then how lucky.

Also got caught in the local kind of rain! It's certainly SOMETHING... A solid wall of water falling from the sky! It rains every evening in Singapore!

Well, a couple of photos for the Pleziru.

Southeast Asia attracts not only with its exotic traditions and way of life, but also with its nature. Some of the animals that live here are found nowhere else. We present to your attention a selection of animals that live only in Southeast Asia.

    proboscis monkey

These unusual and rare monkeys are found only on the island of Borneo. From the local population, they received the nickname Dutch monkeys, because they noticed the same long noses and large bellies in the Dutch colonizers. Males are distinguished by a large fleshy nose, which allows these friendly primates to make bizarre sounds for communication: roars, squeals, grunts. The habitat of these monkeys is rapidly declining due to the fact that local residents arrange oil palm plantations on their territory.

    Komodo monitor lizards

These largest reptiles in natural conditions can only be found on the islands of the Malay archipelago Komodo, Flores and Rincha. The saliva of a monitor lizard contains many bacteria, so it is not necessary for a monitor lizard to bite its prey to death. It is enough just to chase the bitten victim, who dies from blood poisoning within a day.

    Hornbill

This bird is the symbol of the island of Borneo. She is so worried about her offspring that while incubating eggs, the female literally immures herself in a hollow. Building materials: branches and earth, are fastened with their own droppings. The result is a strong wall with a small hole through which the male passes food to the female. In such voluntary confinement, the female spends about three months, waiting for the babies to hatch and nursing them. Then he cuts through with his large beak a window in " Big world» 🙂

    Binturong

This cat bear (eng. bearcat) is actually neither a bear nor a cat. He is a relative of civet, the very ones that make the most expensive coffee in the world. This is a very friendly animal, thanks to which they began to start it as a pet. This idea is especially popular in the USA. The powerful tail of the binturong serves as its fifth hand, with which it clings to the branches of trees. In addition, the binturong marks its territory with the help of odorous secretions. This oily substance has been used in perfumery for centuries to add durability to perfumes.

    Lori or tarsier

These cute animals live in Southeast Asia, the islands of Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi and the Philippines. The tarsier's head can rotate almost 360 degrees. In the past, Indonesians believed that the head of the tarsier existed separately from the body, and were afraid to face them, because they believed that the same thing could happen to people in this case.

    Red panda

This beauty lives in the north of Myanmar, in the southern part of China and on the mountain slopes of Nepal. In English, the animal is called firefox and it is in honor of the red panda that the famous browser is named. The animal is listed in the Red Book, and is endangered because of its beautiful fur, which is used to make hats.

    sun bear

The smallest member of the bear family lives on the islands of the Malay Archipelago. For its size, the local population gave it the nickname "bear-dog". And he got the name "sunny" for a bright spot on his chest. This bear has the longest claws and tongue with which it destroys termite mounds, and the shortest coat among bears, which allows it to easily endure tropical heat.

    black-backed tapir

It lives in Myanmar, Thailand and the Malay Peninsula. Despite the brightness, the animal's unusual coloration is protective, helping it disorientate predators. In the dark, the white part stands out, and the outlines of the animal themselves are lost. The image of a black-backed tapir is guessed in a good spirit that saves people from nightmares in Chinese and Japanese mythology.

    orangutan

These are the only Asian great apes found in Borneo and Sumatra. They are so similar to people that their name is translated from the Malay language as "forest man". We were lucky to watch them with our own eyes during.

    flying dragon

This name was given to small lizards due to the ability to soar on their "wings", which they use not only for movement, but also to intimidate enemies. For people, flying dragons do not pose any danger and are so small that they fit in the palm of your hand. They are common in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines.

This was the promised ten amazing animals of Southeast Asia, and in conclusion, I would like to add a small bonus 🙂

    Rafflesia

Almost all of the above animals are listed in the Red Book and are rare species that are under the threat of extinction. Have you seen any of these animals?

In the numerous and diverse world of the fauna of mammals that are able to "fly", or rather plan, there are only a few. The most famous are flying squirrels, spiketails, marsupial flying squirrels and woolly wings. Here we will talk about the latter. Kaguan (Cynocephalus volans), flying maquis, or Philippine woolly wing, or simply woolly wing.

This unusual animal belongs to arboreal mammals that live in the tropics of Southeast Asia. There are only 2 extant genera and 6 fossil genera in the Colleopteran order. Of the living, in addition to the Filipino, the Malay (lat. Cynocephalus variegatus) woolly wing is known.

From the name it is not difficult to guess about the areola of their habitat. The first chose the Philippines, or rather, the islands of Leyte, Bohol, Mindanao, Samar and Basilan. The second is Thailand and the islands of the Indonesian archipelago.

It is difficult to say who this animal resembles more - to someone a cat, to someone. Its dimensions are small - up to 65 cm along with the tail, weight is about 2 kg. On a small pretty muzzle there are large round dark eyes and rounded small ears.

The small limbs of the woolly wing are equipped with sharp claws, so that it is more convenient to climb trees and hang on branches. But to plan between the trees, it is helped by a dense flying membrane that connects all the limbs, tail and neck of the animal. There are also small webs between the toes on the paws.

By the way, the flying membrane of the woolly wing is the largest among other "flying" mammals. From above, she, like his whole body, is covered with small, soft and thick fur, which is why they called this animal a woolly wing. The coat of the kaguan varies from brown-red to grayish-brown, the light belly and the same light spots on the sides stand out only against the general background.

Kaguanas are nocturnal animals that spend most of their lives in trees. On the ground, they can be found very rarely, since they crawl along it and can easily become prey to predators. Colleopterans spend their days in hollows, getting out of them after sunset. It is at this time that you can see their flights. In the jump, they spread their paws in different directions and stretch their tail, thanks to which the membranes are stretched as much as possible.

The flight range of woolly wings is up to 140 m, with a height loss of only 10 m. Smaller distances (20-30 m) they actually fly in a straight line. But that's not all. By changing the tension of the membrane, the kaguan can control the direction of flight. They land in the same way as, for example, flying squirrels or. Taking a vertical position at some distance from the target, they land on the tree with all 4 limbs.

The diet of these flying animals is purely vegetarian: buds, leaves, flowers and fruits of various trees. Interestingly, the breeding features of the woolly wings are similar to representatives of marsupials, so they are sometimes referred to as them. The female brings, as a rule, one (rarely two) small, naked and blind babies. For the first 5-6 months, he lives, firmly clinging to his mother's belly. Hanging on a branch or just sitting on a tree, the female bends her tail to her abdomen and creates a kind of protective bag for the cub. The cubs will be ready for independent life only after 2-3 years.
