• Selecting a resort. Holidays with children in Cuba: Where is the best place to holiday with children?

    27.12.2023

Despite the fact that nowadays many popular countries with tourists, such as Egypt, Turkey, Dominican Republic, Bulgaria, Greece and Abkhazia offer many hotels and boarding houses for a pleasant and comfortable holiday, Cuba still remains the country in which children are provided with the best rest. It’s not for nothing that many families with children strive to go on vacation to Cuba.

An undoubted advantage is that to visit this country it is absolutely not necessary to obtain a visa, which is very convenient. After all, going on holiday with a child to a visa-seeking country means that you will have to collect a huge package of documents, especially if you are not going there with your entire family.

Cuba is also attractive because it has a very good, gentle and comfortable entry into the water, which is very important for relaxing with children, snow-white, gorgeous beaches and practically no cold currents. Near the shore, the water is always warm, which is very comfortable for children to swim in. In addition, most local hotels operate on an all-inclusive basis, 24 hours a day, and in many hotels children under 12 years of age stay free of charge.

The island of Cuba is basically every traveler's dream. It is the largest island in the entire West Indies. Any visitor to Cuba immediately becomes indescribably delighted with the diversity of its picturesque nature. Prices are low here and it is very convenient to relax with children. This country has a temperate climate and the heat is quite easily tolerated here. Havana is consistently considered the most visited Cuban resort. Unique plants, tropics, picturesque rivers, murmuring and thundering waterfalls fascinate even the most experienced travelers.

The only time when you should not fly to Cuba with children is the period from May to October. This season in Cuba is very rainy. Since the climate on the island is moderately tropical, the water temperature here does not drop below +25°C at any time of the year. This circumstance, without a doubt, makes holidays in Cuba very popular. The air temperature here in winter stays at +19°C, and in summer it sometimes rises to +35°C.

When going on vacation to Cuba with children, you should carefully choose a hotel. There are quite a decent number of hotels there that have a family program. In such hotels, the restaurant menu will definitely include food for children, and you can rest assured that all the dishes will be very tasty and healthy. At your first request, they will definitely put a crib in your room, and in addition, such hotels must have a lot of children's entertainment, children's pools with small slides, children's animators, and sometimes a children's disco.

The only thing you should remember when going on vacation to some Cuban hotel is that the climate in this country is hot and humid, so mosquitoes and midges may be found here. Therefore, be sure to take the necessary protective equipment with you. Don't forget also about Panama hats and special shoes for children, which will reliably protect delicate children's skin from coral fragments.

Try not to go to wild beaches with children - there may be sea urchins, moray eels and other dangerous inhabitants of the Atlantic Ocean. Still, on hotel beaches, special employees regularly monitor the cleanliness of the water. And also, since the flight to Cuba is quite long - 11 hours, try to think in advance what you will do with your child during this time - games, films, books and the like. Have a pleasant and comfortable stay.

I can’t tell you about Vietnam, I haven’t been there yet, but we flew to Cuba with our children at the end of June 2010.

I previously posted the report here, I’ll copy it to you, if you have any more questions, ask.

Our family with two children, 4 and 8 years old, vacationed from June 22 to July 11 in Cuba, Iberostar Tainos Hotel. Upon arrival in Cuba there was a surprise - one of our three suitcases did not arrive. And along with us, about 10 more people lost their suitcases. After 5 days it was delivered to us; fortunately, it contained the least necessary things that we could live without.
The weather is very good! The heat is over +30, which is what is needed to warm up the old seeds. There were rains almost every day, but most often short, warm, after which everything dried quickly, they did not interfere with rest. Only once did it rain for 3 hours after lunch, but even here it was possible to find a way out: I arranged for the children to play under the roof on the terrace of the mini-club, I myself read a book in a bar nearby and drank some tea.
The food in the restaurant was quite good; fruits regularly included papaya, pineapple and mango. I tried guava a couple of times, but didn’t like it. Among the exotic varieties, they offered cassava, a vegetable similar to potatoes in taste and shape, but more tender.
We had enough entertainment - swimming in the sea, then in the pool, participating in numerous games that the animators organized on the beach, dancing every evening, and then an interesting costume show. My husband went diving, went out to local shopping once to buy souvenirs, and excursions, of course. At this point we had a blast - we traveled a lot, I think. In total, our family’s assets include:
    1. Crucero del Sol - we went with the children, it was a trip on a catamaran, we visited the island of Cayo Blanco, here we swam with fish, visited the dolphinarium.
    2. Havana special - my husband went alone, I stayed at the hotel with the children, he told me about visiting Havana, the same excursion included a visit to the Tropicana show, he returned at almost 2.30 am.
    3. I attended the Tropicana show in Varadero alone; they offer dinner and then a standard performance: mass dancing and a change of luxurious costumes. To be honest, I wasn't very impressed, because... Before this, I had already been watching similar dances staged by our hotel’s animators for 2 weeks and was already fed up.
    4. Guama Vapor - we traveled with children, the excursion included a visit to the museum of old steam locomotives, then we were taken for a ride on one such steam locomotive to show the sugar cane plantations, then a visit to a small local museum, a visit to a crocodile farm, a visit to an Indian village, a boat ride . There are a lot of impressions!
    5. Cayo Largo is an excursion by plane to an island with white sand and azure sea. Also a catamaran ride, a visit to the island of iguanas, a dolphin show, and lobster tasting. Departure from the hotel (scary to say!) at 5.35, return at 20 o’clock, but overall I liked it.
    6. Jeepsafari - I went with my elder, this excursion impressed me the most, it was the most intense. In addition to a jeep ride, there is a boat ride, swimming in grottoes where the water temperature is no higher than +20, horse riding, the eldest also managed to ride a bull, a visit to the city of Matanzas, the opportunity to take pictures with a crocodile and a snake. It was just a holiday for the child!

Holidays in Cuba with children. Tips for tourists

Most tourists with children who have visited Cuba claim that this country is one of the best places to holiday with children, and the most difficult challenge of the entire trip is the 12-hour flight. You can get to Varadero or Havana by direct flights from Moscow or with transfers in Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam or Madrid. In the latter case, the trip to Cuba will take an average of 16-20 hours.

Why is it so attractive for tourists to spend holidays with children at the sea on Liberty Island?

Firstly, the weather and swimming conditions. Despite the tropical latitudes, the “velvet season” in Cuba is quite long and comfortable.

The best period for a holiday with children in Cuba is from October to May, when the summer heat is not so strong and the rainy season ends.

The water temperature throughout the coast at any time of the year does not fall below +25 degrees, and therefore comfortable swimming is guaranteed for your child, especially since most of the beach areas in Cuba are sandy and have a gentle entrance to the sea. In general, the beaches of Liberty Island are an ideal place for a children's beach holiday - with delicate white sand, shallow, clean water, with warm clear water in which exotic fish splash.

The second argument in favor of choosing Cuba as a resort for families with children is comfort and safety. Especially for those who prefer to relax with the whole family, there are family hotels in Cuba. Their infrastructure and list of services provided fully satisfy the requirements of tourists with children. The hotel room is equipped with a cot for a child, and among the children's entertainment in the hotel there is a swimming pool, a playground and animator services.

While the children are having fun, their parents can devote time to themselves and go to the sauna, bathhouse, restaurant, go to a beauty salon or dance at a disco.

The crime rate in the country is very low, and in relation to travelers it is even close to zero, so you don’t have to worry about safety with a child in Cuba. The level of medicine in Cuba is also high.

The best holidays with children in Cuba are in Havana, Varadero, Holguin, Santiago de Cuba, and on the island of Cayo Guillermo.

Some resort areas have zoos, aquariums and dolphinariums. The show program of sea lions and dolphins in the dolphinarium, which is located on the beach area of Rancho Luna in Cienfuegos, is in great demand.

Children in Cuba are treated very well, you will feel this immediately upon arrival. They will always help you and create all the conditions so that you and your child feel as comfortable as possible.

There will be no problems with food for children anywhere in Cuba, since the island has a well-developed network of state restaurants that serve dishes of Creole, Spanish, German, Mexican and other cuisine. At the same time, you can always agree with the chef to prepare the dish according to your individual wishes.

But it is worth knowing that baby food in Cuba is in great short supply, so if you are coming here with a baby, then stock up on jars of baby food that are familiar to him for the entire trip. In addition, you need to take with you on your trip the necessary medications, children's clothing, and sun protection products.

For prevention purposes, some doctors recommend getting vaccinated against hepatitis A.

Among the safety measures that should be followed while on vacation - always wear a hat for your child and use creams with a high degree of protection against ultraviolet radiation; Don't drink tap water. It is better to buy bottled, mineral or juice; Do not eat in small cheap restaurants; the quality of food there often leaves much to be desired.

Cuba is a wonderful holiday destination not only for adults, but also for children. This resort has a lot of opportunities for organizing children's recreation. I propose to consider them in more detail.

Pros of holidays with children in Cuba.

    1. To visit this country there is no need to obtain a visa, which is convenient. Usually, when taking a child abroad to a visa-seeking country, a considerable package of documents is required, which in turn frightens parents, especially those who are not traveling with a full complement.

    2. Gorgeous snow-white beaches with a good gentle entry into the water, there are no cold currents here, the water near the shore is always warm, which is an ideal condition for swimming children.

    3. Most hotels operate on an all-inclusive basis; as a rule, this concept is valid for 24 hours.

    4. Many hotels provide all the conditions for families with children: mini club, children's animation, baby food, babysitting services and much more. While relaxing in such a hotel, the child will not be bored, and adults will be able to devote some time to themselves.

    5. Many hotels accommodate children under 12 years of age completely free of charge.

Disadvantages of holidaying with children in Cuba.

    1. The flight to Cuba takes 11 hours, which may be impossible with a child; not every parent will be able to keep their child occupied for such a long time, and children can have a very hard time withstanding such a flight, so you should think twice about flying to Cuba with your child or not. Most adults do not dare to undertake such an experiment and choose closer holiday destinations, such as Turkey, Cyprus, Spain, Bulgaria and others.

    2. When choosing a hotel, pay attention to its focus; in Cuba there are many accommodation facilities aimed exclusively at youth recreation; if you stay in one with a child, you simply will not be able to relax properly. Constant loud music and noise will cause serious discomfort. Take this very seriously.

    3. Do not swim on wild beaches; moray eels, sea urchins and other inhabitants of the Atlantic Ocean live here. When vacationing with a child, use only the hotel beach; special staff constantly clean the water from such unpleasant surprises.

    4. It is very easy to burn in Cuba, so be sure to take the highest protection creams, especially for children’s delicate skin. It is better to wear a T-shirt on your child to avoid serious burns.

    5. There are no water parks or all kinds of amusement parks in Cuba.

    6. Don’t forget to take mosquito repellent with you; you may not be able to buy them on site.

What to see with a child in Cuba.

Cuba has a rich excursion program, but it is still aimed at adults rather than children. From all this diversity, I will highlight those places that will be interesting not only to adults, but also to children, since we are primarily concerned with their leisure time.

    1. A real Jurassic Park (Valle de la Prehistoria), it is located in the town of Santiago de Cuba. All the inhabitants of that period, all kinds of dinosaurs and pterodactyls are presented here in the form of sculptures.

    2. There are several dolphinariums in Cuba, on the coast of Varadero, as well as in the towns of Cienfuegos and Cardenas. As you can see, there is plenty to choose from.

    3. In the town of Ciego de Avila you can ride horses, as well as change into more comfortable carts.

    4. Turtle farm in Cayo Largo.

    5. Near the Varadero resort there is a crocodile nursery where you can feed them chicken and take memorable photographs.

As you can see, Cuba is a wonderful country, with its pros and cons, but if you pluck up the courage and visit it with your child, based on these tips, your vacation will be wonderful, and like most, you will love Cuba and will definitely want to come back here again. once.
