The best beaches in Thailand are located away from large cities and noisy life. Such places are mainly present on the islands, although there are also on the mainland (for example, in Khao Lak and Krabi). And we will start with the mainland ones.
Jomtien Beach (Pattaya)
Located in the famous Pattaya - the most Russian resort in Thailand. The city attracts with its cheapness on everything: hotels, food, shopping. Since there are so many people, the main coast is filled to capacity with tourists. Therefore, it is better to relax in, which is located a few kilometers south of the city. It is much calmer here, there are fewer people, half a kilometer from the coast green meadows begin, where there are no buildings.
This is by far the best. You can relax here in comfort all year round, since there is no rainy season, the sea is almost always calm, there are no low tides, when the water goes 50-100 meters from the shore. The coast is sandy, no stones. The entrance to the water is not gentle, the depth begins immediately, after 4-5 meters it is already waist-deep (some beaches have a gentle entrance, when you have to walk 20-30 meters in the water to swim normally, and even more at low tides).
The Jomtien coastline stretches for several kilometers. There are areas with sun loungers and parasols (there are more people there), and there are places where only trees can provide shade.
Kata Beach (Phuket)
A popular beach on the island of Phuket among our tourists, the coastline stretches for about a kilometer. The coastline is wide - there will be enough space for your children to frolic near the water. It is generally good for, since the entrance to the water is shallow and the first 10 meters will be knee-deep. Children will happily splash around in the shallow water and you won’t have to worry about being in deep water. Almost the entire coast (except for the northern part) is occupied by sun loungers and sun umbrellas. So there's plenty of shade here.
Kata does not have pronounced ebbs and flows, but from mid-May to October-November there are often high waves (from half a meter and above) and underwater currents are activated, which can be carried out to sea. Therefore, during this period it is better to visit other beaches in Thailand.
Kata is connected (by land, not by water) to Karon - this is another one. It is longer and in some areas almost deserted. Unfortunately, there are few trees on it, and sun umbrellas are present mainly near hotels. 10-12 meters from the sea there is grass, which is pleasant to lie on. These two magnificent beaches are completely sandy, there are no stones.
Klong Prao (Koh Chang island)
- This is the central and longest. This is where the real bounty really is: clear sea, soft sand, palm trees hanging down to the water. This is clearly visible in the photographs. Unlike the previous two, there is no paved road 100 meters from the sea. Therefore, you can completely forget about civilization and enjoy your holiday in the lap of nature. When you swim in the sea, you will see the beautiful mountainous landscapes of Koh Chang.
The Klong Prao coastline stretches for several kilometers; it will take you at least 40 minutes to walk through it. And to the north of it there is another paradise beach, Chai Chet, which is separated from Klong Prao by a river 15-20 meters wide. Both coasts will please everyone. In the south there are several comfortable hotels (for example, Amari), where guests are provided with sun loungers and sun umbrellas. There are very few people in the central part; inexpensive bungalows costing 350-400 baht per day are scattered along the shore.
These beaches have a gentle entrance to the water; very often there are low tides, when the water goes a hundred meters from the shore. Sand everywhere, no stones.
Lamai Beach (Samui)
Located on the island of Koh Samui, its length is several kilometers. It combines developed infrastructure, beautiful views and relative sparseness. There are areas where there are few people and no sun loungers, but there are fully equipped areas with sun loungers, sun umbrellas, coastal massages and water activities. The coast is sandy and wide. Quite suitable for a family holiday. It is not recommended to visit only in autumn, when there is frequent rain on Koh Samui.
Long Beach (Phi Phi)

The beach on Koh Phangan is located in the south of the island. It is famous throughout the world for the Full Moon Party, which takes place once a month. If you are a party animal, there is no better place. There are a dozen bars along the coast with powerful sound systems that play music all night long. During this period there are a lot of people, sometimes several thousand.
When there are no parties, then Had Rin Nok is quite suitable for an ordinary beach holiday. The sandy coast stretches for about a kilometer, the entrance to the water is gentle. The beach is wide and clean as it is cleaned regularly.
Nang Thong Beach (Khao Lak)
It will appeal to those who prefer to get away from the well-worn tourist trails. The resort of Khao Lak is not so famous and popular, and therefore the nature here has been little changed by man. There are also few tourists.

Located in the northwest of Lanta Island. This is truly an idyll! In the morning you wake up to the sound of the sea, there is a small forest all around, there are no cars, no motorcycles, no bars, no Thai people offering to buy something on the beach. Only a couple of bungalow hotels and a restaurant attached to them. Sea, sun, greenery, clean air, almost empty beach - and it’s all yours! After sunset, you can go out to the middle of the beach and feel like the only person on the island - there is no lighting, no people nearby.
And if you suddenly want to have fun and hang out a little, then walk along the coast for 20-30 minutes and you will find yourself on -. Nang Thong (Khao Lak)
A not too well-known resort that has preserved untouched nature and the atmosphere of a truly exotic Thailand. Its beach stretches for several kilometers. In the north there are no hotels or infrastructure; in the southern part and in the center there are sun loungers and you can have a snack in coastal cafes. In general, the shore is strewn with sand, but in some places there is green grass. The entrance to the water is sharp and deep. From May to October the waves here are high, you can’t swim, but surfing or windsurfing is excellent.
According to tourists, the place is quiet and romantic; you can take beautiful photos on the pier and on the swings. A local attraction is the picturesque lighthouse.
Hua Hin City Beach
More famous mainland resort. The beach here stretches along the entire city, but is constantly interrupted by closed areas of hotels and private houses, so there are only about eight exits to the sea.
The place is relatively suitable for swimming - there are many boulders near the shore, and there are often strong waves. At low tides the water moves too far from the shore. But sunbathing and just relaxing on the sand is very comfortable. In the central part there is a kite school and equipment rental; surfing and windsurfing are also convenient and fun.
Sai Noi (Hua Hin)
Unlike the city beach, this place is very clean, with small waves and a shallow entrance to the water. In reviews, tourists compare it with the beaches on the islands in terms of picturesqueness and cleanliness of the water. On the outskirts there are a little unkempt places, but overall this does not spoil the impression. Sai Noi is a little far from the center, so the place is quiet and peaceful. The beach is fenced off from the rest of the world by picturesque rounded rocks.
Railay Beach (Krabi)
Many people know it as an island, but part of this province is on the mainland. Kata (Phuket)

It stretches for a kilometer and is suitable for almost everyone - the strip of sand is wide, the entrance to the water is shallow, and at a depth in October-November there are strong waves that surfers love to conquer. Lots of sunbeds in the shade of trees. The sand is clean and soft, the sea is also clear. Among the negative aspects, tourists note crowded conditions in the high season and noise in the northern part due to the construction of new hotels. There are many hotels and cafes along the coast, but their prices are quite high.
Nai Harn (Phuket)
If you rank the beaches of Thailand, you can safely put this in first place. It is located in a bay, protected from wind and waves, and is divided into several zones. In the east it is good to relax with children - the sea here is shallow and clean, there are no stones on the shore or in the water. In other areas there are gentle waves that are pleasant to rock while swimming.

The disadvantages are not significant - Nai Harn is located far from the airport, so getting here is not easy. But there are always few people here. There are also few cafes, but some people like it even more - it creates a more relaxed atmosphere.
Klong Prao (Koh Chang)
This is the central beach of Koh Chang, a real tropical bounty - azure sea, soft light sand and palm trees descending their branches straight to the water. However, during high tides, only a narrow strip of sand remains from the beach, and you won’t be able to soak up the sun. But swimming in clear water is very pleasant, and photographs taken here will resemble staged photos from the Maldives or Seychelles. If you still want to sunbathe in the sand, then choose the northern part, Chai Chet.
The water is clean and warm, the bottom is very flat, so it’s very pleasant to splash around with children here. A short distance from the shore there is a road lined with shops and restaurants.
Tourists note that in the morning there are a lot of animals here - mainly crabs and fish, which hide from curious tourists during the day. There are no bananas or motorboats, so you can relax peacefully.
IMPORTANT: If just lying around and swimming becomes boring, rent a canoe or go to the nearest islands for snorkeling.
Lamai (Samui)
The island is almost as popular as Phuket. Tourists believe that all its beaches are good, but Lamai offers the most varied recreation. It stretches for several kilometers, and on this long strip of sand you can find wild recreation, areas with developed infrastructure, and water activities. There are very few people here, the sand is clean and white. Sometimes waves rise, but other areas can be calm at the same time. Active tourists think that it is a little quiet here, but Lamai is completely suitable for a relaxing holiday. On the territory of Lamai there is a massage parlor with pleasant low prices.
Long Beach (Phi Phi)
When a person goes to Thailand, photos of beaches are often an assistant in choosing a place to relax. That's why many people go to - after all, the local Long Beach looks simply amazing in the photographs. The water here is really clean and blue, the shadow of the jungle falls on the snow-white sand, which seems to protect the beach from the encroachments of civilization. Holidays here are quiet and calm, the sea is warm. You can rent a snorkel and mask, a wave board, a kayak and even a Go Pro camera. There are several dive centers open on the shore - in the vicinity of the island you can see tiger sharks and other rare marine life. From November to March there are strong waves - bad for swimming, but very attractive for surfers and windsurfers. The only thing you won't find here is noisy parties.

Island beaches are considered quiet and calm, but Had Rin Nok is an exception. Once a month, the Full Moon Party is held here - the largest and noisiest event in all of Thailand. Dozens of bars play music all night, and hundreds and thousands of people dance right on the shore.
As the party winds down, Had Rin Nok becomes almost deserted. It is best to swim in the left part of it - the bottom on the right is too rocky. The water is very clean, the sand is fine and really white, there are no stones or even small shells under your feet.
In the evenings, bars host small discos - not too large, but fun.
Koh Kwang (Lanta)
This quiet place on the island is notable for its rocky area, where trees grow right in the water - the swimming experience is quite interesting. There is also a classic sandy coast without infrastructure - only sun, greenery and sea.
Klong Dao (Lanta)
If you move a little away from Koh Kwang, you will find yourself on a completely different beach - Klong Dao. It is considered the main party spot in Lanta. There are many bars and restaurants, massage parlors and shops open there; for party lovers, noisy discos with dancing and drinking are held every evening.
After sunset every day, tourists are treated to a fire show.
Due to the similarity in names, the beaches of Hin and Nin are often confused both in reports and on maps. But anyone who has visited both knows: Klong Nin is a tourist’s paradise, and Klong Hin is a survivalist’s paradise.
There is a road along the beach that divides the local area into two parts: the wild one behind the road and the wild one near the sea. True, the Thais managed to set up several bungalow resorts near the sea, but this did not affect the quality of the infrastructure and the popularity of Klong Hin beach on Lanta. Plus, there is a rocky bottom. Precisely rocky, because you still need to try to find a clean entrance to the water, where you will not stumble over ancient lava.

Relax Beach is a small beach that follows immediately after and it is quite possible that administratively it belongs to it, or rather to the village of Ban Phra Ae. But Relax is located at a great distance from the main Long Beach, so tourist people do not consider it anything more than a beach near Relax Bay Resort.
Cozy, wide, hidden from passing cars behind two hundred meters of palm groves and rural buildings. Not the cleanest beach available on Lanta. It caught my eye that on Lanta there are no longtails, which in the rest of Thailand love to be parked along any beach. This is kind of prohibited by law on the island, and indeed, I haven’t seen them either on Long Beach or Klong Dao. But on Relax Beach, there were about five standing off to the side.

The first stop to catch your breath after crossing to Lanta Island and renting a scooter in Saladan is Ao Ko Kwang Beach. It will be especially successful to get here during high tide, when the water approaches the very shore, completely covering the entire shallow water of Koh Kwang, which makes it absolutely unsuitable for swimming, but looks gorgeous in the photo.
I was unlucky with the tide, so what you get is a series of “beach that isn’t a beach at all” shots. The shooting point is the path next to the Kaw Kwang Seafood restaurant. I took a short walk along the shore to confirm my initial conclusions - this is a beach for contemplation and sunset dinners. They swim here only out of desperation.

Ba Kantiang Bay is one of the largest (by Koh Lanta standards) beaches, which is located at the southern end of the island. Not as many tourists come here as on or, and mostly people come for one day, on their own in cars or on bikes. After Kantiang Bay, there are several more very small coves on the shore, so this beach is the last stronghold of civilization in the south of Koh Lanta. There is a good selection of hotels here, there is even some kind of tourist infrastructure, and further beyond Kantiang there is already wilderness and a protected area. The length of the beach is about one kilometer.

The beach is quite long (about 2.4 km), it is located approximately in the middle of the western coast of the island, immediately after the area, if you come from Saladan. Along its entire length it does not change much, so I see no point in describing it in parts, but I will divide the pictures into two halves - right and left.

Bali Beach on Lanta, also known as Klong Khong, is the next major beach and area on my itinerary for this trip. Third in a row after and. Between Long Beach and Klong Khong there are two more beaches (Relax Bay and), but they are small and can be ignored. Therefore, the third largest and longest beach on Lanta is Klong Khong.
Quite a strange place, “not for everybody” in my opinion. As I understand it, it is not very popular among ordinary tourists who come for a beach holiday, and I understand why - this is some kind of Mars, not a beach. Nevertheless, people come, and housing seems to be cheaper here, so Klong Khong will always get its clients.

Until recently, Secret Beach on Lanta was closed to prying eyes, and it was possible to get here only along the shore from neighboring or. Moreover, the boundaries of the beach are equipped with natural fences made of sharp stones, which not everyone dares to climb. So people simply drove along the main road past the locked gates, unaware of what beauty was hidden so close to them.
Now the beach point has already appeared on Google maps, so its secrecy will soon end. Moreover, they regularly do something there in terms of changing the territory: they level the ground with bulldozers, uproot some trees and plant others. Thanks to this shaved look, you can enjoy an open, light and romantic view as you approach the sea along the dirt road.

Klong Dao Beach is not stretched into a single line, but rather resembles a semicircle with strongly curved edges. This is a bay, the right edge of which bends quite strongly, forming a deep wedge of land into the sea. There is no point in settling on the rightmost section of Klong Dao, because the beach is a walking coast, not a swimming one.
There are few tourists, and people mainly come here to take a walk and sunbathe. You can often see Thais come with whole families for picnics. There are also a couple of expensive resorts on Klong Dao that look pretty nice, but to swim you will have to go closer to the center. The rest of this beach on Koh Lanta is magnificent, but very shallow.

Long Beach (from the English “long” - long) has the original Thai name Phra Ae Beach and is considered the longest beach on Lanta island, as well as the best. Based on what I personally saw on Koh Lanta while riding along the beaches, yes - and indeed they are the best on the island.
Although for a sophisticated person they are just ordinary beaches, in the usual sense. Phra Ae Beach stretches for almost 3 km, and it is the second one you will encounter if you drive from the bridge between Lanta Yai and Lanta Noi. During my visit to Koh Lanta, I stayed on this beach at the Lanta Manda Hotel 
, so Long Beach was my main beach.
