Lumpini Park (or Park Lumphini) is one of the most pleasant places in Bangkok. A quiet green oasis surrounded by skyscrapers made of glass and concrete in the central part of the city. Of all the parks in Bangkok, Lumpini Park is worth visiting in the first place, if only because it is very easy to do due to its convenient location. I really like this park and I have been to it more than once - both in the afternoon and in the evening, and during holiday concerts and when there is a rolling ball here. 🙂

Lumpini Park on the map of Bangkok
The park is located in the heart of Bangkok, in the Lumphini district, at the intersection of Rama IV Road and Ratchadamri Road. It occupies an area of about 57 hectares.

Lumpini park open from 04:30 to 21:00. At about five to nine, park employees begin to walk around the territory and ask everyone to leave, after which they close the gates. Entrance to the park is free for everyone.
How to get to Lumpini Park
The park is located literally at the intersection of all possible transport interchanges, so there are many ways to get here. I will list them all:
- Underground metro MRT. You need to get off at the Si Lom station (blue line), rising from the subway you will find yourself right in front of the park. The fare is 20-30 baht.
- Skytrain BTS - Skytrain. Go to Sala Daeng Station (turquoise BTS Silom Line). The fare is 40-50 baht. When you get out, do not rush to go down to the ground, go through the overpass to the Si Lom metro station, go down and cross the road towards the park. If you live near the Green Line (BTS Sukhumvit Line), then you will need to get to SIAM Station and transfer to the Turquoise Line to Sala Daeng Station.
- Excursions. Not the most trivial option, but still the place to be. 🙂 Some private tours include a visit to Lumpini Park and I will talk about this separately.
- Taxi. Use the Grab app, the local equivalent of Uber. This will be the cheapest and most reliable option. Immediately connect payment by card, this will give an additional discount.
- Buses. There are many buses to the park, but I strongly advise you not to use them - they are long and unpredictable. But if you want, just open Google maps and see what routes pass nearby.
Excursions to Lumpini Park
For those who prefer a meaningful walk in the company of a guide telling interesting stories about the places you observe, I can advise you to take an excursion to Lumpini Park. Of course, the tour will cover not only the park itself, but also other interesting locations. In the case of a private tour, you will also visit the cutest cat cafe in Bangkok, and then stroll through the city's distinctive flower market. And of course, visit the business cards of Bangkok - the Temple of the Reclining Buddha and the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), and then take a walk along Chao Phraya on a water tram, exploring Bangkok from the water. Holidays in Lumpini Park
46. I happened to be in the park and during the period of various festive events in it. Of course, at such moments the park is strikingly different from its ordinary state. 🙂 And, as a rule, you don’t even know that there can be some kind of holiday in Thailand, you come with a duty visit to the park, and there is a natural pandemonium!
47. On major holidays, half of the city gathers in the park, both the Thais themselves and other nationalities that live here, a lot of Chinese and Koreans. As a rule, there are also a lot of tourists, but since the holidays are Thai, the locals have a tangible advantage. They arrange various fairs here, field kitchens, sell food in huge quantities and all sorts of trinkets. Concerts, various show programs are held. In general, quite fun, the only negative is that it is too crowded. 🙂 But it’s still worth taking a look, trying some local kulebyaki, watching performances.

The territory of Lumpini Park in Bangkok is about 57 hectares. And at the very entrance to the park there is a monument to King Rama IV. Thais constantly put fresh flowers near the monument of the ruler, thereby expressing their gratitude to the king. Locals consider this monument to be sacred, so you should definitely take off your shoes to climb to the sculpture.
Just behind the monument is a large gate to the park. On the territory of Lumpini Park there are many paths, green lawns, beautifully planted palm trees along the paths, a large lake and a river. On the lake you can ride a catamaran or a small boat, feed the catfish or just sit on the shore.
Near the water you can often find large monitor lizards the size of a small crocodile. It is difficult for me to say whether they are dangerous to humans, but it is better not to get too close to them.
During public holidays, Thais often hold concerts and other recreational activities in Lumpini Park. For this, a stage was erected on one of the lawns, where artists perform. There are no seats for spectators near the stage, everyone sits right on the grass or dances.
Near the river there is a playground with various swings, where you can often see a lot of children. Near the playground there is a small lake and a gazebo where parents usually sit while their children ride on a swing.
The cleanliness and well-groomedness of the park catches the eye most of all. And the thing is that you can’t walk dogs here, throw garbage on the ground, smoke and drink alcohol. This is reported by numerous signs posted throughout the park. There are significant fines for breaking the rules.
The government carefully monitors that Lumpini Park is a place for cultural recreation and sports. Therefore, here you can often see Thais running, doing aerobics, yoga, martial arts, dancing or meditating somewhere on the lawn.
At the end of the park there is a corner with rare trees and shrubs. Nearby are signs with their names.

Lumpini Park is open from 4:30 am to 9 pm. You don't need to pay for entry.
How to get there?
Lumpini Park is located in the center of Bangkok on Rama IV Road. The easiest way to get to the park is by metro, you should get off at Sala Daeng or Ratchadamri (ground metro) and Silom or Lumphini (underground metro). My article will help you navigate the subway.
You can also get to Lumpini Park by city bus No. 4, 13, 15, 22, 45, 46, 47, 109, 115, 141 or 149. Buses No. 15 and 47 follow from the popular Khaosan Road.

Also in Bangkok they spend the night only in 3 districts: At Khaosan Road, but there is a round-the-clock trash, Near the airport - but there is nothing to do at all; and here, who is pleased to sit on the roofs of skyscrapers in the evenings, walk among them without the noise of thousands of discos. Prices for hotels around do not bite, there are good network ones, such as IBIS, where we lived with a dog for 1200 baht per day (2014).

At the entrance to the park, many sports fans immediately catch your eye: someone is skating, someone is running. Before us is the main alley, going straight and two roads: to the right and to the left. The most interesting thing on the left is a large lake.
You can just sit watching white big birds, feed the fish, of which there are plenty in the water, or ride a boat or catamaran.
If you go straight, and not to the lake, you will soon find yourself on a lawn, where a stage is built among grass and palm trees. On holidays and weekends, it "comes to life" and singers and groups perform on it. There are no benches, everyone sits on the grass. While the Thais are watching the show on stage, drunken foreigners are climbing palm trees (see photo).
Further there will be a small river, a few meters wide. On one of its banks there is a children's town with many swings, ladders, etc. Near the river (not far from the stage) there is a small lake with a gazebo, where it is nice to sit in the shade.

How to get there
Lumpini Park is located in the Patumwan quarter. It can be reached by several modes of transport: skytrain(BTS) - Sala Deng Station and Rachadamri, underground(MRT) - Silom stop, but if you go to Lumpini station, you will only need to cross the road to the park.
You can reach and on buses Khaosan Road No. 15 and 47, which run regularly around the city. This option has one drawback: traffic jams. And if you are in the central quarter of Bangkok near Siam Paragon or the capital's oceanarium, then it is quite possible to take a walk on foot. History of creation
The oldest park in Bangkok was built in the 20s of the last century. Currently, Lumpini is the largest urban park area with an area of 500 km2. Every day you can work out with a gymnastics and fitness trainer for free.
- There are no shops and cafes on the territory of the park, so you need to buy food for a picnic or just a bottle of water in advance at the entrance to the park. Beer lovers will have to be patient - drinking alcohol is prohibited here;
- Lumpini has another name - monitor lizard park. Reptiles feel great in this territory and walk wherever they please. Particularly large representatives live on the other side of the ponds, where there are no paths for visitors. Small individuals often crawl out onto land and climb trees. Be vigilant when passing under trees, as monitor lizards can suddenly hang from a branch and scare;

An oasis of a healthy lifestyle is supported by all means. And if anyone wants to ignore the rules, then they will have to part with an impressive amount of 2000 baht - this is the price of a fine.
