• Tours to Kamala Beach Resort Phuket. Kamala Beach in Phuket - the harmony of nature and relaxing holidays

    29.06.2022

The coast stretched for almost 3 kilometers. The beach can be divided into 3 areas: south on both sides of the hill, center and north. The southernmost tip of Kamala is not suitable for swimming. At low tide, it becomes very shallow here, and the bottom with stones is exposed. Two rivers flow into the sea from the south side, and fishermen moor their long-tailed boats here. A little south of Kamala, across the pass, lies the secret beach of Hua. It is completely wild, there is almost no infrastructure there.

The central part of Kamala starts from the tsunami monument and continues to the north. The sand here is of different sizes, in some places it is quite fine, in others it is larger. The entry into the sea is gentle and without stones, which is suitable for swimming with children. At low tide, you need to walk to the depths. The color of the water is not as beautiful as on or Surin, the sea sometimes seems unclear, although it is clean. The central part of the beach is bordered by casuarina and palm trees, creating a natural shade. It is here that the main beach infrastructure is located: sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, stalls with drinks and water sports. The price for a set of two sun loungers and an umbrella is 200 baht for the whole day. There are places where you can sit with your mat in the shade of trees and rest comfortably without fear of getting burned. Paid toilets and showers are provided by nearby restaurants.

The very north of Kamala is quieter than the central part. There are few people here, you can sit on a mat in the shade of trees, and swimming is as comfortable as in the center, the tides are hardly noticeable. A stream flows into the sea, which dries up during the high season and does not disturb vacationers.

The south of Kamala Beach is not suitable for swimming

    Kamala Beach Hotels

There are not many hotels in Kamala. All of them are located near the sea. In the very south on the mountain are located, and private villas. The sea near them is not the best: low tides are noticeable, the bottom is with stones, but hotels provide shuttles to their own beach club with good sea, and the views from the rooms and restaurants are gorgeous. In the central part of Kamala, you can stay in a three-star hotel, in a quad only for adults from 16 years old and in a children's hotel with entertainment for young guests. In the northern part, right on the beach is located, and a little to the side - with water slides.

    Attractions and entertainment

The coast is popular with newlyweds from China. In the morning, photographers run around happy couples and make them pose even in the midday heat. Photo shoots take place closer to the north of the coast, where it is less crowded. There are not as many water sports on Kamala as on and, you can ride a jet ski, fly by parachute. The bay is suitable for a calm beach holiday, long swims and meeting a charming sunset, sitting on the sand or in one of the restaurants near the beach. There are no problems with drinks and Thai food right on the coast: in the central part, rows of macaroons line up every day and cafes are located. The beach itself is lined with peddlers selling corn, ice cream and other snacks. There are several massage points right on the beach and salons located along the streets.

Macas by the beach offering cocktails

In the southern part of the beach there is a Buddhist temple - Wat Baan Kamala. On the territory of the shrine you will find a bell tower, monastic cells, a school and the main building with painted walls and a statue of Buddha. The beauty of the temple cannot be compared with or. Wat Baan Kamala is characterized by its rustic charm and peaceful retreat. If you have time, check out this Buddhist temple, just don't forget to cover your shoulders, cleavage, knees and belly. It is customary to take off your shoes when entering the building.

There are many cafes along the beach in the central part.

In the evening it is worth visiting the famous. There are many shops with souvenirs on the streets, you can take pictures in national clothes, see local crafts, a small terrarium and Bengal tigers, ride an elephant. You can visit the park with dinner, which takes place in the golden palace of Kinari. The show is held every day, except Thursday, in a stone palace with elephants. Fantasy Village and the show will appeal to children. If you are relaxing with an adult composition, you should give preference.

    What to do in Kamala

In the central part of the coast, vacationers are offered water sports: a parachute, a banana and a water scooter. In the south, long-tailed boats are moored for trips along the beaches of Phuket. There are no places for snorkeling on Kamala, it is better to go to the islands for fish and corals.

In the low season from May to October, waves appear on Kamala. Here you can rent a surfboard or take lessons with an instructor. For lovers of training in the south, in front of the pass, there is a Thai boxing camp, where both group and individual classes are held.

In the center of the beach, on the embankment near the Tsunami Memorial, there is a small park with a playground and sports equipment. Kids will be interested to ride the slides or swing on the swings. Access to the playground and exercise equipment is free. From the hill, just north of the Novotel Phuket Kamala, offers a gorgeous view of the entire beach. If you wish, you can climb there along the main road on foot, but be careful: there are no footpaths.

View from observation deck to Kamala

If you get bored in Kamala, explore Phuket by city bus. His stop is located near the local post office. A blue songthaew travels along the main road from Kamala through Surin and Bangtao to Phuket Town. By bus you will reach the shopping centers Villa Market, and, and. Detailed route information

    Restaurants and cafes

Vendors line Kamala Beach selling drinks, popcorn, ice cream and other foods. Restaurants and cafes, macaroons and stalls with, and lined up in a row in the central part of the coast. The streets around the Print Kamala Hotel and the Tsunami Monument are lined with restaurants serving European food. I can recommend the German restaurant Kokosnuss, where they offer pasta, schnitzels, sausages, yoghurts, pastries and much more. On the shore with a gorgeous view of the sea, there is a good restaurant Mamma Mia with European, Thai cuisine and. Another favorite of mine is the Ohlala restaurant, located on the main road. The menu offers Thai classics, northern Thai dishes, including khao soi soup, papaya salad, and European food.

Beach street with shops and restaurants

For a special occasion, opt for the Plum Restaurant at the Cape Sienna Hotel. On the open terrace there are ordinary tables and round gazebos surrounded by water. Prices in the restaurant are above average, but the view is simply amazing. The menu includes Mediterranean, European and Thai seafood cuisine. And if you want to drink a cup of delicious Thai coffee, go to Doi Chang Coffee. You can find detailed information about restaurants in Kamala.

    Night life

Kamala cannot boast of active evening entertainment. Several bars are located on the streets of the central part of the beach and along the main road. Perhaps the most famous are Kamala Beer Garden and the sports Aussie Pub. Further north you will find two beach clubs - the Phuket branch of the famous Café Del Mar in Ibiza and the HQ Beach Lounge. During the day, the beach clubs play pleasant music suitable for dinner, and parties take place closer to the night.

Desperate party-goers should go, take a walk, look into the bars, where, break away at the disco. Some hotels offer shuttles to Bangla Road or Jungceylon Mall. will cost 300-400 baht per car one way. The ride is only 10-15 minutes.

Markets and shops on Kamala Beach

The Kamala area cannot be called a paradise for shopaholics, but everything you need is here: exchange offices, markets, 24-hour mini-markets and a supermarket. are scattered all over the beach both on the promenade, near the Tsunami Monument, and a few on the main highway. There are two markets on Kamala: opposite on Fridays and at the pass to Patong on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

    Big C Shopping Center

Groceries, prepared meals, household chemicals, cosmetics and more can be bought at the Big C supermarket on the main road, Tesco Lotus Express or Superchip. Souvenirs and beach accessories can be found in the shops on the promenade and in the nearby streets. Do not forget about: peddlers with elephants, tunics, bedspreads walk along the beach. Be sure to trade with them.

Map of Kamala beach in Russian

All the above attractions, hotels, cafes, restaurants, markets, entertainment and shops, I indicated on the map below. You can download it to your phone.

After Phuket's most famous and crowded beach, Patong, Kamala's long, wide beach is a real breath of fresh air. Beach framed by picturesque casuarinas perfect for swimming and relaxing. Even during the rainy season, there are people here - however, mostly locals, rather than tourists who try to surf on the intensified waves.

Compared to other cities and towns in Phuket, Kamala is more like small traditional Thai village. Of course, there is also a tourist infrastructure (where would you be without it now), but you don’t have to go far to find a secluded place to relax, where you can enjoy authentic Thai food in a modest restaurant, where there are mostly locals, and not tourists (and this is an indicator of high-quality and inexpensive food). Kamala Beach - best beach in Phuket in our opinion. Our preferences do not always coincide, but we both liked Kamala at first sight. Kamala has a calm sea, pleasant sand, few tourists and all the necessary infrastructure. We were lucky to live on Kamala for a whole month, and during this time the beach did not have time to get bored.

    Kamala Beach, Phuket

    Kamala Beach: description and impressions

What a beauty! are the first thoughts that come to mind when approaching the beach. And what a blue water! There are no waves, you can swim! We take off the flip flops - the sand is so soft and fine, as if you are walking on fluff. And there are so few tourists! I've been on the beach for 10 minutes and I haven't heard a single Russian word yet.. Is this really Phuket??

    Kamala beach. Phuket

Kamala is a great place to stay in Phuket

The water is clean, although not always crystal clear. For a month, I have never touched any debris in the water. There are usually no waves at all or they are very small, only on some days there are medium waves that you can jump on. Sometimes biting is felt in the water - a feature of all Phuket beaches. We did not understand who bites, small plankton or tiny jellyfish.

Entry into the water is pleasant and smooth, the bottom is sandy without stones and shells. I would even say that the entry and bottom here are just perfect. To a depth of "neck" meters 30-40. There are specially fenced safe areas for swimming, where lifeguards are on duty and boats do not swim. But at low tide, the water leaves and swimming is complicated by the fact that it becomes very shallow.

    Waves on Kamala

    Few Russian tourists

There are generally few tourists on Kamala when compared with the most famous beaches - Kata, Karon and Patong. The resort is not very popular among Russian-speaking tourists. When we arrived here, I heard Russian speech only on the third day. And I thought that Phuket is the second Pattaya in terms of the number of compatriots. Mostly Europeans, Germans and British, and the Chinese, of course, rest here. An American accent is also sometimes heard.

At the end of November, with the onset of the high season, more Russians appeared. Now on the beach, nationalities are mixed in approximately the same proportions. However, according to my observations, the Russians on this beach are not some kind of cattle, but rather decent people. There was no such thing as someone swearing on the entire beach, sorting things out or staggering around drunk. On this beach for the motherland is not ashamed

How to sunbathe? Sunbed with umbrellas and shade from palm trees

Phuket now has sun loungers again. An umbrella is placed between them. The amenities are not free. Prices like 200 baht for 2 sun loungers and an umbrella. If the price has changed, write in the comments.

    These are homemade deck chairs

If you don’t want to pay for a sun lounger, you can always sit anywhere on the beach on your towel. There will be a shade under the palm trees until about noon, so umbrellas are not particularly needed. The main thing is not to lie down under a palm tree with coconuts. On most palm trees they are cut off, but for some reason some palm trees are not touched.

Resting in the shade of palm trees

    Beach entertainment

From the entertainment offered jet skis, banana and parasailing. 30 minutes on a scooter costs 1500 baht. They didn’t know about a banana and a parachute, but I think it costs no less to fly. There are also several massage points in the middle part of the beach.

    Cafes and restaurants

There are several beach cafes right on the sand, which are open from 10 am until late in the evening. In the middle part there are several bars and cheap street cafes "for the locals", in which tourists mainly eat. Prices do not differ much from ordinary Thai cafes, well, maybe a little more expensive, because on the first line.

    beach cafes

    Cheap Thai cafes

Near Thai cafes there are always a few macaroons, in which we often took banana pancakes for 40 baht. This is slightly more expensive than on the main road, where the same pancake costs 30 baht. By the way, in these cafes you can eat with your own drinks. I don't know about alcohol, but we used to bring our own soda from 7-Eleven.

    Many merchants

Merchants are unobtrusive, just say know or ignore. But they can quickly get bored with the fact that they come up to you 5 times a day with their elephants, scarves and fake watches.

Where can I order a transfer from the airport?

We use the service - KiwiTaxi
Ordered a taxi online, paid by card. We were greeted at the airport with a sign with our name on it. We were taken to the hotel in a comfortable car. You have already talked about your experience in this article

    The process of hilling tourists

    deserted beach

In the far right corner of Kamala near the mountain is the famous Novotel. Between the central beach and the Novotel beach, a deserted semi-wild area stretches. Here you can sit in such a way that there will not be a single tourist within a radius of 100 meters from you.

    Novotel beach

Passing the wild beach, we find ourselves on the beach of the Novotel hotel. This is a small corner lagoon, so there is always a calm sea. Casuarina trees grow on the shore, which provide shade and exude a pleasant coniferous smell. Great place to swim with kids. But we didn’t really like swimming here, as it’s very shallow.

    Novotel

    low tide

Every day there are ebb tides, sometimes quite strong. I don't like swimming at low tide. Usually around 10-12 am there is always a high tide, and the low tide begins closer to dinner. By the evening the water comes again. Sometimes the tide is out early in the morning. I remotely determined whether it was low tide or high tide by the level of the water in the stinky river that flows into the sea. Rivers fill up at high tide and dry up at low tide.

Low tide. Photo in the left inaccessible part of the beach

    stink rivers

Like all beaches in Phuket, Kamala has one unpleasant feature - 3 stinky rivers flow into the sea. While swimming, you don’t think about it, and it’s not noticeable that some kind of sewage floated in the water or unpleasant odors hovered. Maybe the current is taking it away from the beach. But every time, passing by such a river, you try once again not to inhale its pungent, fetid aroma.

    stink river at high tide

By the way, in this temple, which is in the photo above, we recently noted a large Thai.

The left corner of the beach, where one of the rivers flows, is used for parking boats

    sunsets

I would like to end the article on something more positive than a description of smelly rivers. Kamala has great sunsets. To enjoy the sunset as much as possible, I advise you to go towards Novotel, because the mountain will block the sunset on the central part of the beach.

    Kamala Map

Useful points are marked on the following diagram: places for swimming, 7-elevens, the only toilet (10 baht), cafes, and mini markets with beach accessories and souvenirs:

    How to get to Kamala

On the public transport in principle, you can get there cheaper, but it will take longer, since you first have to travel by minibus across the entire island to Phuket Town (100 baht), and then change to a Kamal bus (40 baht). Total 140 baht per person. If you are well oriented in Phuket, then you can shorten the path, get off right after the Heroes Monument, cross the road and catch a bus to Kamala. But keep in mind that buses run only until 17-18 hours. - no longer relevant! Now he is walking in Phuket, where you can get to Kamala for 150 baht per person.

From other beaches: if you have your own transport, then it will not be difficult to get there. Just follow the signs north of Phuket along the coast. It takes about 15 minutes to drive from Patong. From Karon and Kata drive through Patong.

If there is no bike or car, then you can take the Smart Bus. Or by bus with a transfer through Phuket Town. You reach the final (Market bus station) - at the beginning of the street there will be buses to Kamala. As a rule, they are always written in English Bangtao - Surin - Kamala. Travel time is about 1 hour or more, as there may be traffic jams. The fare is 40 baht. These buses look like this:

You can also get there by taxi. A taxi from Patong costs 400 baht. But, you can bargain with taxi drivers. We went once for 300, another time for 350 ($10).

Kamala Beach - this beach can be called urban in the full sense of the word. It is located in the central part of Phuket on its western side and north of the famous beach. In fact, this is the coast of the town of the same name, which consists not only of tourist buildings, but also of the houses of ordinary residents.

    Description of the beach

This beach is not one of the smallest, its length is about 2 km, while its width is very narrow (20 - 30 m). For a long time, Kamala was a quiet and peaceful place. The beach served as a marina for fishing boats and for recreation of Thais. There were very few tourists on it. However, in recent years, more and more often you can meet older people who have chosen this quiet and peaceful place as their second home.

It is understandable, all the benefits of civilization are at hand, at the same time, the sea is within easy reach. In addition to those who moved here, there are now many package tourists.

The sand on Kamala is white, like grains of salt. There are many hotels on the beach line and the beach area next to them belongs to them. Accordingly, sand quality and purity can vary significantly.

The beach is popular, but much less noisy than or.

In my opinion, it is somewhat similar to, that is, it is relatively calm and a little rustic here, but there are enough people. With cleanliness on Kamala, too, everything is in order. Only on the southern "wild" part can there be a lot of garbage.

Entry into the water, depth and waves

The southern part of the beach is not very suitable for a beach holiday. The coast there is dirty, there are a lot of stones and cobblestones. Local fishermen often park their boats there. Also on the southern part there is a rather gentle entrance, you can walk for a long time to the depth. And in the central and northern parts, where there are umbrellas and sun loungers, the entrance, the closer to the north, the less gentle.

The wide line of Kamala Bay favors the winds that create big waves. To the north of the beach, they rise to heights of up to 3 m, and approaching the shore, they stumble upon a network of underwater reefs and rise even higher. During the monsoon season, red warning flags appear on the beach. Swimming at this time is dangerous. Strong waves can hit you and carry you away from the shore.

    Sun beds and shade

There are not so many sun loungers on the beach. In the most visited areas of the beach (center and north), you can rent a sunbed with an umbrella for a standard 100 baht. Hotels that have their own private areas of Kamala often put up additional rows of sunbeds that are available only to guests of this hotel.

The beach can change a lot in different seasons. In high season, the entire beach from the center to the north is one large field of sunbeds. There are many people swimming in the water, the waves are quiet and smooth. In the low season there are few sunbeds, even in half an hour of walking you can not find one.

There is practically no natural shade on the beach, only if there is an extreme row of sunbeds adjacent to the trees, and in the morning, when the sun is not yet so high.

    beach photo

    North of Kamala (right)

    South of Kamala (left)

    Infrastructure

On the beach itself there are all the Thai attributes of the beach. Massage parlors, tent cafes, mini markets and hundreds of sellers of cheap souvenirs, clothes, beach accessories. There you can not only buy, but rent a scuba diving apparatus and explore the northern reefs.

In addition, according to many surfers, steep waves are an excellent source of adrenaline, but only experienced professionals should conquer them. If you are an excellent surfer, then during the wave season Kamala will be your Everest. Many available boats, boats and kayaks are also waiting for you on this beach.

Some tourists rent a boat and sail to one of the neighboring, more attractive beaches. But you can ride not only on boats, but also behind them with a parachute or on a "banana".

Holidays in Kamala are not limited to typical entertainment. Yoga schools are available at hotels (meditating on one of the stones of Kamala against the backdrop of the rising sun is worth a lot), real Thai massage parlors and Thai cooking schools, where you really will be taught how to cook Thai food perfectly.

The combination of beach and civilization gives undeniable advantages to Kamala. You can walk around the village, go to the Friday Market, where a large selection of goods is presented not only on the beach theme. There is also a mini Tesco and a small Big C.

A trip to the Kamala Temple will also not leave you indifferent, but the most interesting place is (Phuket FantaSea) - this is an incredible and biggest show on the island. In my opinion, it is more designed for children, although adults will also be interested.

Hundreds of artists, elephants and other exotic animals will tell you an interesting story under the vaults of the evening sky. But Phuket Fantasy is not limited to performance. She claims to be the most big park entertainment in Phuket. There are many cafes, attractions that look like fun carnival games and, of course, shops.

The architecture of the Palace of Elephants and other buildings is pleasing to the eye and amazing. The park itself is filled with helpful employees who will take care of you (they will tell you where the most interesting entertainment and other joys of life are). This park is located in the central part of the beach, just 300 meters from the shore.

Houses and hotels on the beach

The entire coastline (1 lane) is occupied by expensive hotels, if we are talking about the central part of the beach. And hotels occupy all the space from the coast to the main road, which goes far from the coast. There are almost no hotels along the coast in the northern part of the beach, instead there are wastelands fenced with fences (future hotels?). And there the hotels will all be across the road from the beach, and their density is also small.

In terms of prices, the farther from the coast, the cheaper, which is logical. You can even find a hostel for as low as 200 baht per bed. On the other hand, luxury hotels with unsurpassed beauty views of Kamala Bay can cost more than 15,000 baht per day.

In addition to price, appearance is also an important factor. Here Kamala also provides a great choice. There are modern grotesque hotels made of glass and white stone, and there are cozy mini-coves-pools with wooden houses that form their own special system.
