    Fast passage:

    Bus

You can get from Tbilisi airport to Guduari and public transport, this method is the most budgetary, but it will take much more time. In addition, there is no direct transport, and you will have to go with two transfers. So, first you need to get to the central railway station of Tbilisi.

Bus number 37 runs around the clock on this route, it departs from the airport at intervals of 20 minutes until midnight, at night (until 7 am) - every 35 minutes. Travel time is 50 minutes, the ticket costs 50 tetri (0.5 Georgian lari). Further from the railway station you should get to the metro station Didube. There are two ways to overcome this route: by taxi for 5 lari or by metro, the fare costs 50 tetri, but you will have to purchase another plastic card for 2 lari (then you will be able to return it). The journey will take about 20 minutes.

Near the Didube metro station there is a bus station, from which minibuses depart to Guduari. Transport to Kobi and Kazbegi is also suitable. There is no exact schedule of minibuses, they run at intervals of about 1 hour from 9-30 to 18 hours. The travel time will be 2.5-3 hours, the fare costs 7-10 GEL per person (you will have to pay the same amount for bulky luggage).

Transport that goes directly to Guduari stops near hotels and hostels located near the highway. When traveling on other minibuses, you can get off near the Smart store (Lower Guduari) or near the Old Post Office (Upper Guduari). It should be borne in mind that all the inscriptions on the minibuses are only in Georgian, so it would be good to remember the spelling of the necessary settlements before the trip.

    Taxi

Another option is to hire a taxi locally, i.e. at the airport. Local drivers greatly inflate prices, so you need to bargain with them, as a result, the cost can be reduced several times. Orientation costs $ 100 - this is the most expensive option.

Depending on weather conditions and traffic jams, it will take 2-3 hours by taxi to get to Guduari. Before the trip, you need to clearly find out the location desired hotel in Guduari, as not all drivers know their names and are well oriented.

    Transfer Tbilisi – Gudauri

The most convenient and reliable option to get from the airport to the resort is to pre-book a private transfer. In this case, tourists will be met in the terminal building and taken directly to the place of the planned vacation. The cost of the trip will be known and fixed, and you will not have to bargain and negotiate with anyone.

On the way, the driver can stop near the exchange office, shop or any other place where necessary. An individual transfer from Tbilisi to Guduari will cost about $55-65 for a regular car. For a small group of tourists, it is more convenient to order a minivan or minibus, in which case the transfer price varies from $75 to $110, depending on the type of vehicle.

The only thing you can do after 17.00 is to sit in a cafe, take a steam bath, play bowling or drink homemade wine.

You can take a minibus in Kutaisi to Tbilisi (230 km, 4 hours on the way, 12 lari per person), and then from the Tbilisi station on the Didube metro station, take a minibus going to Gudauri or Kazbegi (2 hours on the way, 10 lari).

We drove to Gudauri from Tbilisi on the UAZ Patriot in 2 hours

If you are going to Gudauri from Moscow and plan only to ski or snowboard without visiting other regions of Georgia, then it makes sense fly to Vladikavkaz on the Pobeda flight, and from Vladikavkaz to get to Gudauri by minibus - it will be cheaper than flying to Tbilisi and going to Gudauri from Tbilisi.

The only caveat is that the Upper Lars crossing between Russia and Georgia, through which the road to Gudauri passes, is periodically closed in winter due to mudflows and landslides in the mountains. There is a risk of getting stuck in a traffic jam on the Georgian Military Highway. However, the savings on tickets are significant, you can take a chance.

How I learned to ski in Gudauri

Those of you who are subscribed to my instagram could watch my ordeals and attempts to get on skis.

Once in college, I was quite tolerably cross-country skiing, and then I went to Silichi near Minsk, went downhill on mountain skis, fell safely many times, hit hard, tore the net and crashed into a tree.

The mistake was that then in Belarus I traveled with unfamiliar people and did not take an instructor, and such things need to be learned from professionals.

This time in Georgia, I did not plan to go skiing, but simply intended to drive with friends to the mountains and drink mulled wine while they were skiing. But the guys persuaded at least to try.

Sveta showed me the basics and several times pulled me down the children's slide by the hand, for which many thanks to her. Now at least I can stand on skis and move a little bit.

The light that put me on skis.

Then I was left alone, several times I moved down the children's slide, after which I crashed into a hole between a snowdrift and a small lift.

Looking at other people and how much fun they get when they fall, it becomes clear that my time has not yet come. Those people want to learn, so they get up and try again. And I don't care, so nothing works.

At one time I did not know how to swim, but during the months spent near the sea, I achieved great success. I also now know how to jump from the sides and drive a scooter, although I thought that I would never learn.

But biking and swimming are a necessity, and skiing is more of an entertainment, so go skiing again, take an instructor and learn to ride while there is no desire.

    Unforgettable vacation in Gudauri! Sincerely,

The ski resorts of Georgia are successfully located throughout the country and were considered among the best back in Soviet times. Closest to the capital, in the north-west of it, is Gudauri - a large modern ski resort, a Mecca for freeriders. To the northeast, in the high mountains of Svaneti, is the resort of Hatsvali and the new ski resort Tetnuldi, which opened only in 2016.

And to the south of all, almost in the center of Georgia, in a pleasant neighborhood with the famous springs of Borjomi, there is the oldest Georgian ski resort Bakuriani, which is now experiencing a third birth. The young resort of Goderzi, built in the mountains near Batumi, also has excellent prospects.

    Gudauri

The ski resort is located near the village of the same name on the slopes of the Greater Caucasus Range, along the Georgian Military Highway and not far from the Cross Pass. The resort complex itself is located in the village of Upper Gudauri at an altitude of 2196 m.

    Weather and resort occupancy

The season in Gudauri officially opens from the second half of December and lasts all spring, and in especially snowy years, including May. But it happened that in snowless winters, skiing on the main slopes began only in January. But the 2016-2017 season started earlier, from December 10th.

In April it is warm and sunny, skiers often ski in T-shirts. And although there may be heavy snowfalls in April, there is no wind. The slopes of this ski resort in Georgia are almost empty, and skiing at this time is a pleasure - lifts and slopes do not close until the very end of the month.

    Trails and lifts of Gudauri

There are 22 slopes in the resort, their total length is 57 km. The ratio of tracks by difficulty for amateurs and professionals is approximately 80:20 in percentage terms. This is facilitated by wide slopes located above the level of forests (which is safe), and they are accessible directly from the ski lifts (which is convenient).

Gudauri Freeride Tours) classes are conducted in three languages: Georgian, English and Russian. The guides and instructors here are experienced and have lived in these places for many years, and their phone numbers are on billboards at each rental building. Paragliding, depending on the duration and season, will cost from 160 to 500₾ (Lari) for those who wish. The basics of flight will be taught in flycaucasus.

The reward for courage is the wonderful mountain landscapes of Georgia from a height and complete unity with nature during the descent.

Hatsvali and Tetnuldi - new ski resorts in Svaneti

A significant number of fans of mountain skiing decide to ride on the slopes of this resort region of Georgia. Acquaintance with him begins with the city of Mestia - a ski resort in the north-west of Georgia. Located close to Abkhazia. Opened recently, but already popular among skiers in many countries.

Clean healthy air and breathtaking landscapes, excellent equipment of lifts and slopes (new French equipment has been installed here) in the near future promises to turn this place into a high-class European-level ski resort.

So far, the infrastructure here is not yet developed at a sufficient level, but the plans for the development of skiing in Svaneti are serious.

    Hatsvali

It is only 8 km from Mestia to Hatsvali, which in good weather can be easily overcome by car and on foot, despite the elevation angle of 7-8⁰. In winter and spring, you need an off-road vehicle to climb. Transfer from Mestia to Hatsvali in 7-8 seater Mitsubishi Delica costs $30.

Skiers began to master the slopes of the resort in 2011.

On the track for beginners and children (300 and 600 m) there are 2 drag lifts. Hatsvali is a great place for freeride and backcountry in Georgia.

In summer, sightseers go to the upper station to the cafe area to breathe in the mountain air, drink coffee and look at the mountains. Here is the starting point to start trekking in several interesting directions.

    Tetnuldi

The youngest Georgian ski resort in Svaneti. Opened in February 2016, located on the slope of Mount Tetnuld (4869 m). The resort is also not far from Mestia - only 15 km. Capacity 7 thousand visitors. The height difference here is 2260 m above sea level. sea (lower station) - 3040 m (upper station). The tracks are blue. The longest of them is 9.5 km.

Scheme of trails of the ski resort Tetnuldi

There are three lifts so far - 3-seat lifts from the French company POMA. The plans include the construction of 16 tracks of varying difficulty and the expansion of the ski area to 35 km, the development of freeride. All this should seriously compete with large Georgian resorts.

Skiing in Tetnuldi starts from the end of December and ends by the end of March.

    Infrastructure

Massage parlors and SPA, discos and children's centers, European-class hotels and first-class restaurants, billiard rooms and other signs of a civilized resort place - this is not yet what Svaneti can provide guests with big requests.

    Svaneti hotel room for $35

The ski resort is still under development, and the infrastructure of Svaneti is at the initial level. At the foot of Khatsaveli and Mount Tetnuld, in close proximity to the skiing areas, there is not a large selection of accommodation. Most of the guests rent it in Mestia and get to the slopes by transfer from hotels or by their own cars.

A hotel in Mestia can be rented for $25-30 per day (breakfast included), and with breakfast and dinner for $30-40.

Prices in guesthouses are more democratic: $10-15 and $20-30 respectively.

    Ski pass prices

For the 2016-2017 season, the price tag is the same for the Khatsaveli and Tetnuldi slopes, and lower than in the two largest Georgian resorts.

    • 1 lift costs 5 GEL, ski pass for 1 day - 25 GEL, for 2-7 days 50-145₾.
    • If you want to ski not in a row, but on any 5 days a week to choose from, buy a ski pass for 122₾.
    • For a ski pass for the whole season, pay 300 GEL, for students and children - 180₾.
    • The cost of a ski pass in the "low season" from 13.03 to 13.04 is 180₾.

If you are going to ride longer, so as not to return every day to Mestia, you can rent a guesthouse in Danisparauli, 3 km from the meadow for 40-45 GEL with two meals a day. Another option: to settle in one of the cottages in the clearing for 100 GEL (double room) or for 150 - in a quadruple. You have to pay extra for meals in the cottages.

The youngest ski resort in Georgia, opened on December 10, 2016. Goderzi is 110 km from Batumi. The road is asphalt (40 km to Keda), the rest is unpaved, it takes about 4-5 hours.

Scheme of slopes of the ski resort Goderzi

Ski slopes here are good for beginners, gentle and wide. The gondola lift, while two lines are running. The construction of several more tracks is in progress. The skiing is pleasant, the snow is fluffy, the spruces are snowy, between the tracks rare forest. Good conditions for freeride. Almost all descents start right from the lifts.

There is a ski equipment rental. Two hotels, the old Meteo, and the new Goderdzi hotel is being renovated. This is the only cafe in operation. There are no shops and pharmacies at all yet, everything needs to be brought with you from Batumi.

For 500 GEL (student - 280 GEL) there is an opportunity to purchase a single Ski pass, which will be valid at all resorts during the season.

Alpine skiing in Georgia has always been in high esteem, and the development of this sport, like no other, depends on a good material base. The ski resorts of Georgia contribute to its popularization, bring tangible income from the development of the tourism industry and delight many thousands of skiers from other countries.

If in winter Gudauri turns into the epicenter of winter active recreation, tourists from different countries, most of which are from Russia, flock here to ski and snowboard on snow-white slopes, hone their skills or try their hand at winter sports for the first time, then what is going on here summer?

And in summer/autumn, there is a completely different picture here - sun-drenched green meadows strewn with fragrant flowers and herbs, fields, peacefully grazing cows, silence and absolute idyll! You can live in the bosom of nature and enjoy the views of the snowy peaks, inhale the coolness of the freshest air and hide from the bustling and sometimes stuffy Tbilisi. What we actually did 🙂

In this article I will tell and show how Gudauri looks like in summer, where you can go for beautiful views, and what else you can do in the Gudauri ski resort during the ski "off season" 🙂

And this, in fact, is a scattering of hotels and houses in Gudauri, the resort is located right on the Georgian Military Highway.

Most of the places that I will describe in this article can be seen as part of a 1-2 day trip from Tbilisi to Kazbegi, it is not necessary to stay here for the night, but we, for example, enjoyed spending half of our trip around Georgia in Gudauri. By the way, our friends, planning a 3-week vacation in Georgia, allocated a whole week to Gudauri and were also delighted.

In addition, from here you can ride to the village of Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) to look at Kazbek - a photogenic and capricious handsome man, a mountain of five thousand meters, and also go to the valley, and much more!

Where to live and how to get to Gudauri, I tell at the end of the article, and now - about what awaits you here!

Ski lifts are still operating in Gudauri in summer and early autumn,

which means you can climb to the very top - Sadzeli Peak, from where stunning 360-degree panoramas open up from a height of 3268 m.

In order to climb to the very top, you need to ride on 3 lifts. The cost of the 1st section is 5 GEL, a ticket for 3 lifts is 12 GEL, a subscription for the whole summer/autumn is 60 GEL. In summer, only 3 cable cars operate - gondola, Snow Park and Sadzeli.

You can also ride only on the 1st and 3rd lifts, and walk between them (this is the smallest, and at the same time gentle part of the ski resort), at the same time you can admire the herds of grazing sheep.

The third ascent is with the steepest slope, here the mountain is bald, and all the beautiful views open just from the chair lift.

In some places it is already breathtaking, especially when you consider that this is not a booth closed on all sides, but an open armchair.

From the top of Mount Sadzeli (3268 m) you can see the gorge and other snowfields,

And even in summer you can play snowballs here 🙂

In windy weather, despite the sun, it is rather cool upstairs,

but I don’t want to go down so quickly, because there is such beauty all around!

Moreover, the review here is on all 4 sides 🙂

    - Gorgeous views of the mountains and gorges, which are not visible from below.

From the top of the Sadzeli one does not go trekking, it is essentially a giant block of stones, with a very steep slope, which can be skied down in winter or biked in summer.

AT summer time extreme cyclists come to the resort (a bicycle pass for the whole day costs 12 GEL). On weekends, mountain bike competitions are held here, but on any other day, you can climb with your bike, because the track does not go anywhere.

    new church

We saw this church from the balcony of the Marco Polo Hotel,

so we certainly wanted to take a walk to her,

it is very close - a typical Georgian church,

new, built at the expense of a wealthy Georgian.

There is nothing special, but behind the church is the picturesque Aragvi Gorge

for a change, you can take a little walk along it,

    the views are pleasant.

And how much there, and indeed in Gudauri, greenery and flowers ..

a completely different picture than in a snowy winter 🙂

    Bicycle lane

On one of the days, when there was a planned power outage and the lifts were not working, we went for a walk in the mountains right along the bike path, from the Alpina hotel, although we didn’t get on this path right away, and for some time we hobbled along the grader for cars ((

At the same time, it was a great workout for the leg muscles, with a nice picture for the eyes 🙂

All the way we were accompanied by this peppy puppy,

whose energy was over the edge, it feels like he sat up at the hotel, waiting for tourists, running alone in the mountains, apparently, is not so interesting)

You can walk along the slopes in Gudauri for a very long time, which is not a step, then a place for inspiration,

    meditation,

    or yoga 🙂

And from everywhere - a panoramic view of the green meadows,

    sometimes with cows

    and sun-drenched, flowery valleys.

This monument - an observation deck, was built back in 1983, as a sign of friendship between the Georgian and Russian peoples, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the pact on Georgia's accession to Russia. The Arch of Friendship of Peoples is located at an altitude of 2384 m, just a couple of kilometers from the resort, up the Georgian Military Highway, if you go from Gudauri to Kazbegi.

The arch is huge and bright, it is hard not to notice it, it stands right on the side of the Georgian Military Highway.

In summer, life is in full swing at the Arch - all tourists traveling to Kazbegi definitely stop here, so here, by the way, there are stalls with churchkhela, Georgian souvenirs, knitted hats, hot corn, and other Georgian goodies.

The first thing that catches your eye at the entrance to the Arch is a huge colored mosaic panel, but this is not the main feature of the Arch, although it is very spectacular.

The main one is a disturbing view of the surroundings, the gorge and the round mountain,

from paths and balconies hanging over the abyss.

The views open up, the soul goes to the heels with delight, it's indescribable ..

    There are several lookouts here.

and with each one you certainly want to take another shot.

    Aragvi Gorge

The Aragvi Gorge is very picturesque, this is a view from the Upper Gudauri region, if you look closely, you can see a tiny Arch of Friendship of Peoples on the right.

From some hotels in Gudauri, the view just opens on this crevice in the valley.

Also, you can look into the Aragvi Gorge if you go for a walk along the ski slopes,

or decide to stop by a new church.

A picturesque road runs along the bottom of the gorge, you can get on it in front of the serpentine leading to Gudauri near the village of Kvemo Mleta, next to the starting point to the Lomisi Monastery, which I already wrote about in.

Down the Aragvi gorge you can drive to an artificial turquoise lake,

on the road along the river, though in this case you need an SUV.

Well, it’s best to just admire the lake in all its glory from the observation deck, which is located just above it - the Arch of Friendship of Peoples.

The most picturesque views of the Aragvi gorge from above open just the same from the Arch.

If you walk 300-500 m to the left of the Arch, you can feel the extraordinary atmosphere and enjoy the views, away from tourists and fuss.

And the most photogenic view of the Aragvi gorge from a natural observation deck is a stone on a ledge below, under the arch.

    Paragliders, quads, horses

Do you like this kind of activity? Yes, all this is also in Gudauri.

Such activities can be booked both at the hotel and independently on the Internet, or you can take advantage of the offers near the Arch.

For example, for a 15-minute paragliding flight, they ask for 200-250 GEL (depending on whether you need a transfer to / from the hotel). There are longer flights for 25 minutes.

During this time, you can admire the mountains, snowy peaks in the distance, and fly over the picturesque Aragvi gorge.

    Equally exciting is horseback riding.

especially if you agree on a longer and interesting route over the mountains.

Well, quad bikes are more for an amateur, because in my opinion, enjoying the picturesque views while driving over potholes is completely inconvenient .. we saw a group riding, and the squeals were hardly from the beauties seen

    Lomisi

A few kilometers down the Georgian road towards Tbilisi, in the village of Kvemo Mleta, there is a nature trail to the Lomisi Monastery, trekking of medium difficulty - 3.5 km one way with a climb of 1000 m. If you like hiking and trekking, then be sure to go here , you will not regret!

This is a very pleasant and atmospheric place, with stunning scenery both along the way and from the top.

    Kazbegi / Chaukhi

Well, if you go from Gudauri up the Georgian Military Highway, you can visit the Sno valley and the Chaukhi mountain range (this is perhaps my favorite place in this mountainous region).

And of course, it is worth visiting the village of Kazbegi (Stepantsminda), from there, in clear weather, bombing views of the tall Mount Kazbek open up.

There, in this village, in the village of Gergeti, there is a popular attraction - the Trinity Church, the visiting card of the Kazbegi region, la and Georgia in general,

    Where to stay in Gudauri?

Some hotels and restaurants are open only in winter, only a few hotels operate in summer, and what is convenient, most also work on a half board basis (breakfast and dinner), as in winter.

Very popular in winter apartments in New Gudauri, next to the gondola lift - here it is a small area, illuminated by the sun.

These apart-hotels also work in the summer, but alas, the huge supermarket located there is closed during the summer.

As a result, despite a dozen houses with cozy apartments, tourists who settled here in the summer find themselves without breakfast and dinner (which hotels can boast of). Yes, they have a kitchen in the room, but they are cut off from such an important part of the infrastructure as a store, alas, restaurants in the summer in this part of Gudauri also do not work.

The nearest large store is located a couple of kilometers below on the Georgian Military Highway, called Smart.

There are apartment options both on and in Bucking.

Several options are also available in the apartment building, next to the panoramic Hotel Club-2100, there are also these cool swings with a view of Central Gudauri.

You can see all hotels in Gudauri here.

If you love mountains as much as we do, now you know where to look for amazing mountain landscapes in Georgia - in Gudauri!!

For how to get there, see the next paragraph!

    How to get to Gudauri?

By plane to Tbilisi (120 km to Gudauri).

    1. The most budget option- This is a minibus from Tbilisi. It costs 7 GEL, it leaves from Didube station, it takes 2 hours on the way, in my opinion they deliver it to hotels. At least on the way back from the hotel we were picked up. Departure times are at 9:00, 11:00, 13:30 and 17:00 (times subject to change). Return minibuses also run on schedule, starting from the old post office building.
    2. Can be reached by bus, which goes to Stepantsminda. In this case, you will simply be dropped off on the highway in Gudauri, and the cost will be 10 GEL.
    3. By taxi from Tbilisi- 60-80 GEL per car (more expensive in winter), the easiest way to look for taxi drivers is at the same Didube bus station.
    4. Transfer from airport- from 150 GEL.
    5. To hitchhike– in Georgia in general, and on the Georgian Military Highway in particular, it works well.
    6. Rent a car. Read more about all the details and intricacies of the lease in our article:

    To Gudauri via Vladikavkaz.

You can get to Gudauri on your own from Russia, through Vladikavkaz and the Upper Lars checkpoint. But be sure to watch the weather forecast and especially, keep an eye on the condition of the road. During snowfalls, the road can be closed from a few days to a week, so you can get stuck both on the way there and back.

You can also fly to Vladikavkaz, by the way, there are very cheap tickets from Moscow, from 2000 rubles ()! Further, you can get to Gudauri by minibus (500 rubles).

    Marks on the map

During the time spent in Gudauri, we fell in love with these places, and even got excited about coming here to ski in the winter, because this is the best (modern and largest) ski resort in Georgia, so in the next article I will tell you more about the opportunity winter holiday in Gudauri.

If you love skiing or snowboarding, check it out!

    Updated 05/07/2019

The Gudauri ski resort is located in the northern part of Georgia near the border with Russia. The small village attracts tourists with smooth slopes without obstacles and long snowy winters. Gudauri stands on the slope of the main ridge of the Caucasus Mountains at an altitude of 2196 meters. You can get here along the Georgian Military Highway directly from the capital, along the Gudauri-Tbilisi route, the distance is 135 kilometers.

Tourists go to Georgian Gudauri, first of all, for freeride and heli-skiing. But there are enough equipped tracks here, and 80% of them are blue and red. Add to this special green trails for beginners, training tracks, instructors and a snow park. Everything is modern and safe. It turns out that Gudauri (Georgia) is one of the best resorts in the country.

Let's see if this is the case. Let me tell you the story and state of the art resorts, slopes and lifts, interesting places and après ski, weather and transport. I will not forget about the comparison of Gudauri or. What's better? You can decide for yourself after reading.

When planning a trip, remember that you can buy and not think about anything.

    History of Gudauri resort

For the first time, a settlement called Gudauri was mentioned in the 18th century in the context of the Cross Pass. However, the area with the road through the main ridge of the Caucasus Mountains got its name in 1824, when a memorial cross was erected here. Pushkin, and Lermontov, and Griboedov, known for their love for the Caucasus, saw him. People continued talking about Gudauri (Georgia) in the 19th century, already as a separate village.

Many scientists, writers and travelers spoke about Gudauri as a settlement on one of the most important roads in the region. Alexander Dumas spoke in his memoirs about the Mljetsky serpentine, and Mikhail Lermontov sketched the ruins on the other side of the gorge near Gudauri. The well-known ethnographer Nikolai Nefediev also wrote about the village. Before the opening of the resort, there were still 150 years left.

Skiing in Gudauri appeared only in the 1970s. Until that moment, the village, along with its neighbors, was unremarkable - another transit point on the way from Russia to the south. But the Soviet authorities decided to open the first modern resort in Georgia, their choice fell on Gudauri.

Interestingly, the first slopes and cable cars were built in the neighboring village of Kumlistsikhe, but now no one uses them. The center has shifted to Gudauri.

Hotels began to be built on the site of the modern resort. In 1982, work on the first modern hotel was headed by Soliko Khabeishvili, head of the Georgian Central Committee. Now the hotel in Gudauri (Georgia) still stands and is known as part of the Marco Polo chain. The tracks were opened until the collapse of the USSR, followed by an unstable period. But since 1997, hotels, lifts and slopes have been built in Gudauri again.

    Gudauri in our time

The Gudauri ski resort is considered by tourists to be the most modern and youthful in the country. The infrastructure is constantly updated here, the tracks are maintained at the proper level. There are not so many entertainments and après-ski in Gudauri as, for example, in Bakuriani. But people don't come here for that. People come here to ride, and nothing more.

Today Gudauri has grown to one of the largest resorts in Georgia. Now there are 22 tracks with a total length of 75 kilometers. The total elevation difference between the lower and upper points is 1258 meters.

The longest continuous slope is 7.5 kilometers! It makes no sense to describe all the tracks of Gudauri separately - they are nearby and are served by the same lifts.

The lowest station is located between Gudauri and Kumlistsikhe at an altitude of 1990 meters, and the highest one is on Mount Sadzele Western at an altitude of 3258 meters. Every day the Gudauri tracks are processed by snow groomers. Some have machines with artificial snow.

    Rope lifts in Gudauri

For convenience, I’ll tell you about the sections of the tracks by difficulty levels and the lifts that work on them:

    1. Pirveli. Cable car for 3 chairs. Raises up to from 2000 to 2150 meters, serves the lowest green track with night lighting and snow cannons.
    2. Soliko. Cable car for 4 chairs. Elevates from 2150 to 2670 meters, serving a range of blue pistes with gentle slopes for beginners and skiers.
    3. Gudaura. Gondola for 10 people. Raises from 2160 to 2700 meters, serves the same blue lines as Soliko, but leads to a different upper station.
    4. Shino. Cable car for 6 chairs. Lifts from 2150 to 2700 meters, serves the same area as the previous lifts. The newest cable car in the resort.
    5. Snow Park. Cable car for 3 chairs. Raises from 2700 to 2820 meters, serves as a snow park for lovers of extreme skiing and tricks.
    6. Kudebi. Cable car for 3 chairs. Raises from 2670 meters to 2960 meters to the top of Mount Kudebi, serves red runs and freeride slopes.
    7. Sadzele. Cable car for 4 chairs. Raises from 2770 meters to 3258 meters to the top of Sadzele Western mountain, serves red and black slopes.

    Ski lifts Gudauri

Also, the Gudauri ski resort in Georgia is served by short drag lifts. Bombora and Baby lift skiers from the upper stations of the ski lifts Soliko, Gudaura and Shino, and serve special green areas for beginner skiers. Alpina tow bar works with a blue track outside the village - especially for lovers of solitary skiing.

Separately, I will tell you about the Zuma yoke and the ski area around it. This includes the green slopes of Gudauri, created especially for children and those who are skiing for the first time. A training yoke, very close to New Gudauri between the upper station of Pirveli and the lower station of Gudaura. If you are not yet confident in your abilities, then start riding from here, and then go up to the blue slopes.

Children will definitely enjoy the tubing track with a 300-meter moving walkway. This entertainment is located near the Zuma drag and is completely free.

The Gudauri ski resort is otherwise suitable for families with children. There are private nannies, children's corners in restaurants and hotels, playgrounds in New Gudauri. The resort has children's instructors, and ski lifts up to 6 years old are free.

Schedule of lifts and ticket offices

If you are going on vacation in Gudauri (Georgia), then the schedule of the lifts and ticket offices will come in handy:

    • From October to March - 10:00 - 17:00.
    • From April to June - 9:00 - 15:00 on weekdays, 9:00 - 16:00 on weekends.
    • From July to September - 10:00 - 16:00.
    • Ticket offices: in winter from 10:00 to 16:00, the rest of the time and on weekends from 9:00 to 17:00.

Ski passes are valid for 1 or 3 lifts, as well as for a period of 1 to 10 days. There is an option without days off - 5 days a week. The resort has rental centers. I advise you to take proven skiing in Georgian Gudauri, the prices for which may not be the lowest. But this way you will be sure of the quality. The points Mogzauri and WildGuru proved to be the best.

Gudauri ski lift prices in 2019

Ski pass prices 2019 Gudauri for April 2019 are as follows (I give all prices for adults):

    • 1 time - 7 GEL.
    • 3 times - 18 GEL.
    • 1 day - 30 GEL.
    • 2 days - 60 GEL.
    • 3 days - 84 GEL.

There are also ski passes for 4,5,6,7,8, 9 and 10 days. Naturally, the more days a ski pass is taken, the more profitable it is.

Prices change depending on the season. In winter they are alone, in early spring they drop, and in April they become even lower. Prices for the 2019-2020 season will be published closer to its start.

If you like unequipped slopes, then the Georgian resort of Gudauri is the best choice. This is a real treasure for freeride and heli-ski lovers. There are wild slopes right at the resort - you can climb them on ordinary cable cars or ski lifts. If you are not yet a freeride master, then I advise you to take an instructor. Heli-skiing is organized by companies in Gudauri, the helicopter throws on relatively remote slopes. For those who wish, they also conduct backcountry tours with climbing to the peaks.

In general, you should know the following about the Gudauri ski resort:

    • The dry climate and sufficient altitude ensure a long skiing season.
    • Wild slopes without obstacles are ideal for freeride and heli-skiing.
    • The high capacity of the lifts eliminates queues.
    • There are hotels in neighboring villages and right in the resort near the ski lifts.
    • In the high season, finding accommodation on the spot is almost impossible.

    Sights of Gudauri and surroundings

The main attraction of any mountain resort is its slopes and entertainment in the village below them. I'll tell you a little about après-ski, freeride and heli-ski, extreme vacation and excursions. Do not forget that the prices for skiing in Gudauri (Georgia) depend on the season. This is true for both housing and excursions.

Most of the buildings in the village are hotels. In them you will find restaurants, and clubs, and saunas with baths or SPA centers. There are no problems with relaxing in a hotel where you do not live - this is a normal practice. But often hotels offer discounts to their guests, including skiing in Georgian Gudauri, prices may be lower for specific hotels. In terms of the amount of entertainment, the resort is seriously inferior to Bakuriani, but you will not be completely bored.

Extreme recreation is also a kind of entertainment. Gudauri offers:

    • Freeride on near and far slopes.
    • Heli-skiing from 1 to 6 days with full helicopter rental.
    • Backcountry with walking up the mountain.
    • Snowbiking and snowmobiling.
    • Paragliding and speedriding - downhill skiing

Georgia, Gudauri and other resorts offer regular skiing all the time. But you can come here in summer too. The lifts are working all year round– interesting views of the Caucasus Mountains open from the peaks. Travel agencies in Gudauri conduct mountain hikes, teach mountaineering and rock climbing, organize rafting and kayaking on mountain rivers.

    Excursions from Gudauri

Tours are also offered throughout the year. If you have time, then choose:

    1. Trip to . A classic excursion with a visit to the Georgian capital during the day or at night. I strongly advise everyone who has not seen Tbilisi.
    2. Excursion along the Georgian Military Highway. Travel along the main road towards Russia. Beautiful landscapes and the interesting village of Stepantsminda.
    3. Tour Heart of Georgia. Excursion to the central part of Georgia, from where the country began. Tourists especially like Gori and Mtskheta.
    4. Culinary tour. A walk through the Tbilisi market and a master class on cooking khinkali and khachapuri. Suitable for anyone who wants to learn something new.

    Weather in Gudauri

The weather in Gudauri is perfect for a ski resort. The region is located far from the sea, inside the Caucasus Mountains at a decent height. As a result, a cold dry climate with abundant snow is formed here. The season here lasts from mid-November to the end of April. The traditional peaks of the influx of tourists are the New Year holidays and the period from February 10 to March 10.

At the end of November, December and January, the main snow layer forms. The first months of winter are the coldest, but there is more sunshine at this time. If you want to take a break from the crowds of tourists, then come to the Gudauri ski resort from January 10 to 25 - just many are leaving. Sometimes heavy snowfalls occur in December-January.

In February and March, the weather in Gudauri is less sunny, but more snowy. There are also much more tourists than in January. This is the traditional high season, when the snow layer is the largest and most comfortable. February and March are the best months for freeriding. But in April it already becomes warm and sunny, the tourists leave, and the snow supports the cars on the tracks. The trails are open until the end of April.

Read a brief overview of all ski reviews in Georgia.

Reviews of tourists and skiers about Gudauri

Tourists from Georgia, Russia and Europe rest at the resort, so Gudauri receives reviews regularly. Tourists agree that the mountains here are excellent and the slopes are well suited for independent descents. Equipped trails are also good, the lifts work properly and without queues. But only until 16:00 or 17:00, and then there is only one green track with night lighting.

There are also negative reviews. Gudauri is still completely focused on skiing, so there is actually no après-ski here. Several restaurants and bathhouses in hotels, a couple of shops and cafes on the slopes, that's all. After skiing, almost everyone sits in their rooms and relax. There is nowhere to walk here either - except perhaps up or down the Georgian Military Highway. Excursions can be taken, but they take at least a whole day.

When planning a trip to any ski resort in Georgia, do not forget to take out insurance! I wrote more about all insurances in, you can read about the nuances and prices there. Here I want to draw attention to the Allianz insurance company, one of the most reliable and stable. Who wants to pick and find best price, .

Which is better - Gudauri or Bakuriani

The most famous ski resorts in Georgia often argue among themselves for the right to be called the best. Asking the question "Gudauri or Bakuriani - which is better?" think about what you really need.

In Gudauri, as I already wrote, everything is done for skiing. There are many slopes and lifts, snow groomers, snow cannons, freeride, heli-skiing, backcountry skiing for every taste. Skating is also suitable for children. But there is practically no entertainment in the village itself, it is very boring here in the evenings. The Georgian Military Highway is also sometimes blocked.

In Bakuriani (more about the sights of this resort and its environs), the situation is slightly different. Here, too, much has been done for skiing, but there is also a lot of entertainment. Bakuriani is a large village where you can take a walk, sit in a restaurant, relax, go to Borjomi on a narrow gauge railway, which is an attraction in itself. I recommend this resort for family vacation and companies where not everyone rides. There are more housing here too.

Planes fly to Vladikavkaz () from different cities Russia, there are trains. Buses and minibuses go to the territory of Georgia or Vladikavkaz. The risk is that the only checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border may be closed due to an avalanche or the threat of an avalanche. In winter, this happens all the time, but if you want to get to Gudauri on a budget, you have to take risks.

If you want to drive your car all the time, then take care of an overnight stay along the way, plan your gas consumption - there are few gas stations in Georgia and there is no winter diesel. Check the state of the Georgian Military Highway in advance so that it is not closed at the most inopportune moment. This is the most important information on how to get to Gudauri.
