    19.02.2023

When you read this article, we are already wandering with might and main through the stone jungle of Singapore or the real jungle of Bali. So in the coming days we will not be able to respond to reviews. But our faithful computers are with us, soon we will find the Internet and will be in touch! In the meantime, we offer you answers to the main questions about our life in Thailand, which we hear all the time.

Hello, our dear readers! We have been living in Thailand for almost five months now, and some questions are still raised both from our acquaintances and from other people. For example, “Who do you work there?” or “What language do you speak?” Therefore, we decided to compile a selection of the most frequently asked questions and answer them.

    Why all the same Thailand?

Firstly, Thailand has favorable visa conditions for Russians for a long-term stay in the country. Secondly, prices in Pattaya are about the same as in Russia, the main thing is that they are not higher. Third, here all year round summer. Fourth, Thailand has a warm sea. Fifth, there are friendly people here. In more detail about why Thailand, and not Türkiye, we. And why do we live in Pattaya, they said.

In Pattaya, we often go to visit. In this photo we are going to visit the local Buddha on his personal hill.

    Why not Europe?

Firstly, in European countries, visa conditions for Russians are much more difficult for a long-term stay in the country. Secondly, prices in Europe are higher, and we did not count on an increase in the expenditure side of the budget at the time of the move. Thirdly, in Europe there is no summer all year round. Fourthly, not everywhere in Europe there is a warm sea. Fifthly, Russians are not liked in Europe. I hope this is not a secret to anyone.

And how are you not afraid?

Fear comes from lack of information. We were preparing to move to Thailand for more than a year and a half, and there were fewer and fewer "white spots" in information preparation. And with them all sorts of fears disappeared (which at the beginning, of course, were serious).

Did things get so bad for you at home that you decided to leave?

Vice versa. Our life in Russia only got better from year to year. Both in terms of work and in terms of living conditions. But this "better" did not fall off by itself, we did a lot to improve our lives. Moving to Thailand is a new round.

Are you there for permanent residence?

We are here for as long as we want to be here.

    Will you visit Russia?

No. Let the guests come to us.

    Do you often travel abroad?

More often than when we lived in Russia, but less often than we would like. For example, we have already managed to go to and on, we are going to Hong Kong, Macau and Vietnam.

Do you rent or live in your apartment?

    Our beautiful apartment in Pattaya.

Does having an apartment in Thailand give you any additional opportunities? For example, residence permit, citizenship?

No. No advantage over those who do not have an apartment.

Do you have someone to communicate with?

Yes, we have wonderful friends here! Lena and Dima from Kyiv, Yulia from Izhevsk - these are the ones with whom we see each other constantly. And dozens of different acquaintances from the language school, couchsurfing, neighbors and so on. Most often we meet the Dutch here on our way of life.

Update. Two years later, we stopped communicating with the local Russians altogether and are only friends with the Dutch.

The cat is behind its main occupation: contemplation and understanding of reality. And she also looks after the local birds - well, so as not to be outrageous.

    Wait, what about the cat???

The cat Kukoshka survived another move. First she moved with us from Voronezh to Moscow, and then from Russia to Thailand. And if any tuberculosis patient can buy a plane ticket and fly with impunity for 10 hours in a closed space with other people, then transporting a cat is a whole epic.

    Do you miss your homeland?

In general, no. We only miss .

How did your parents react to the move?

They did not believe for a long time that it was serious. They asked a million questions to see if our information preparation was good. They even tried to dissuade.

And now they are happy for us, because they see that we are happy. And they seem to be proud of us. Parents, if this is not the case, write in the comments!

By the way, how do you communicate with them?

Skype with video. Just as they communicated when they lived in Moscow.

Do you probably swim in the sea every day or go for a Thai massage?

Zhenya sometimes bathes on the city beaches of Pattaya, and since September 18 I have swum in the sea 5 times. I don't care for swimming at all. And with Thai massage, the opposite is true - Zhenya goes once every two months, and I often.

And this is Zhenya with his brother Lesha, who came to us in January! Pattaya, Ko Lan.
From Zhenya: just don’t show this photo to your grandmother, okay?

In what language do you communicate with the locals?

In English. Most Thais speak English quite tolerably, and some speak English quite well. In 90% of cases, in markets, shops, cafes, pharmacies, gas stations, just on the street, it is not a problem to be understood and understand what they are saying to you.

But there are also hard cases.

    Are you good with English?

    More than))

    What is your visa?

We have student visa. This gives us the opportunity not to go every 30 days to visaran. But then we have to come to the immigration office every 3 months and pay 1800 baht for each (and yes, we are not happy with this). In addition, we paid 22,000 baht for schooling for 15 months per person. And to get a student visa, we had to go to Laos. Here is such he, tax on white skin.

Why do you learn Thai and not Chinese, because it is more popular?

    Because we live in Thailand.

And if you need to see a doctor, what will you do?

We bought medical insurance in Moscow. "Ingosstrakh", costs 13,000 rubles per person. Lasts a year, covers 30 thousand dollars. Under this insurance, we are tied to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, the most advanced medical institution in the country. There are no such clinics in Russia, which is not Moscow. I mean by steepness and high cost 🙂

Well, do you like it there?

Let's be honest with you: of course, without various unpleasant situations associated with the difference in mentality, and sometimes because of the language barrier - these are the very 10%, "severe cases" that I spoke about above - it can not do. But this is all sheer nonsense. Because our life has become much richer, more interesting and more enjoyable (one healthy sea air is worth something!)

Living in Thailand is probably much cheaper than in Russia?

It all depends on who spends how much on the same things in Russia. Yes, you don’t need to buy winter boots and jackets (and this is already saving many thousands of rubles). The rest: a minute of local calls on a mobile phone - 1 baht, travel by minibus - 10 baht, Internet - 640 baht per month, electricity for two - 400 baht per month, lunch in a cafe (not Thai) for two - from 300-400 baht, gasoline for our motorcycle - about 40 baht.

Cheaper than in Russia: fruits, massages, summer clothes on the market, .

In principle, we spend more money than we spent in Russia, but we also get much more for this money - things, goodies, impressions.

    Who do you work there?

Of course, this is question number 1 🙂 In fact, no one is particularly interested in everything that was written above. It is only interesting how you can earn money not in your NATIVE country. And many people think that, of course, we work here in the tourism industry - as guides or in hotels. No. We never planned to do this.

We make money with the help of the Internet. During the first four months of our life in Thailand Zhenya in Komsomolskaya Pravda.

Now we are developing other ways of remote earnings related to the Internet. For example, we recently opened our . There are other ideas that we are gradually implementing. We will gradually inform about how the process is going on this site. So if you are interested in ways to make money via the Internet, you can subscribe to the news of our site (in the column on the right)))

The best excursions in Thailand - our choice

Now let's discuss What tours are worth visiting in Thailand?. The cost and their duration depend on the particular resort. Phuket, Samui, Pattaya and Bangkok are characterized by both multi-day sea excursions and short-term excursions to the picturesque jungles of Thailand. There are a lot of choices. In the collections below, only the top three of them are listed, to view all, click on the appropriate button.

    The best excursions in Phuket

    The best excursions in Pattaya

    The best tours in Bangkok

The best excursions on Koh Samui

    The best excursions in Krabi

Thailand combines modernity with ancient civilization, man-made masterpieces with paradise nature. It will be very problematic to cover everything yourself, and in particular to learn about them. The best option is to purchase, in which experienced guides will tell a lot about Siamese culture, ancient and modern architecture, and current Thailand.

Tours from Thailand to other countries

Tours from Thailand to other countries are very popular. The most popular direction is. The country consists of many islands of different sizes, the most famous of which are Bali, New Guinea, Sumatra and Java. People go to these parts mainly for the sake of beach holiday. There are also a lot of attractions here, these are all kinds of Hindu temples, natural parks, nature reserves, and excavations of ancient cities.

It will be interesting to go to the city of contrasts. The city-state of Singapore is very different from Thailand. It is one of the richest in the world, because it is there that the world's major banks, head offices of famous brands, trendy shopping malls and much more are located. After Singapore, it will not be superfluous to capture and see the delightful and exotic Kuala Lumpur.

And they took Thailand into a tight ring, and, accordingly, became the most visited states from Thailand. It seems that in each of these countries everything is the same as in Thailand, but this is not so. Yes, the history of the countries are closely intertwined, but the culture and architecture are very different.

From the "ancient Siam" you can rush to the no less ancient and to the neighboring island. The island will surprise with its nature and beaches, but the great India will leave many impressions. In whatever corner of this vast country you gather, there will definitely be religious Buddhist shrines. India has a very different culture than Thailand. It manifests itself in national clothes, architecture, cuisine and much more.

Excursions from Thailand are associated with visiting the most picturesque countries, cities and islands of Asia - and many others. Travelers will see with their own eyes how beautiful and diverse oriental cultures are.

    1) There is no such country as Thailand! The country is called Thailand!

    2) What currency to bring to Thailand?

The country's currency is the Thai baht. Stable regional currency. Widely used in Laos, partly in Cambodia and in the border states of Myanmar. Nobody needs dollars, euros, and even more so rubles, they are not accepted for payment - you will still change in exchangers - it is better to do this not on the street, but in bank branches: there is an exchange in any, but there are no queues and rudeness. It is better to change large amounts from 10,000 USD in trusted Chinese exchangers - ask the old-timers. Take a dollar card and withdraw baht from it, or a ruble card if there is no dollar one. For insurance (if your cash is stolen), you can get a credit card, the best from Alfa and

    3) If you see a smart image of a man on calendars inside houses, on framed portraits, on billboards or anywhere else, it is almost certainly the King. If the image is a woman - this is the Queen. Thais idolize the royal family. The king really did a lot for the people. (Addition: Bhumibol Adulyadej - King of Thailand, died on October 13, 2016)

    >>Last-minute tours to Thailand from 11 200 r – public shock-tariffs vkontakte

    4) Don't joke about the King even in Russian. For insulting the Royals there is a punishment, up to and including prison. For the same reason, you should not throw money, burn it, tear it or step on it with your foot. On each banknote and coin is the image of the King.

    5) Thais are extremely tolerant. Tourists will be forgiven for any ridiculous appearance, perfidious violation of local customs, petty offenses. But this does not mean that it is worth acting like the last pig, getting drunk to a squeal, or walking around the city center in the same swimming trunks.

    6) Thais don't know how to say the word "no". Therefore, if in some question you cannot get an answer for a long time, then you just need to back off: ask another Thai in another place or abandon the original idea.

    7) All the beaches of the country belong to the King. And they are allowed for free use by all local residents and guests of the country without exception. This means that you can move freely along the coastline, lie free on your bedding anywhere, even if there is a five-star hotel opposite, usually the private territory of such hotels is fenced off with a decorative fence or other obvious elements.

There are no private beaches in the country. No one has the right to charge any fee for using the beach. The exception is the territory of national parks, for which a fee is charged.

    8) Everything is fine with aviation in the country. There are large low-cost airlines, the most famous are: Nok Air and Thai Smile. Traditional airlines: and. And regional airlines, such as Kan Air and R airlines, the existence of which even the locals hardly guess. There are airports in the capital of each province and in other major cities and tourist centers.

Tickets are available to everyone. the average price for a flight within the country is 1000 baht. On sales you can take it for 300 baht. For some holidays and destinations, prices can reach up to 5,000 baht. The difference in prices between traditional and low-cost airlines is insignificant, especially if you take into account luggage and other costs (for example), sometimes low-cost airlines have higher prices!

Tickets from Moscow in both directions cost from 20,000 rubles ()

    9) There are two airports in Bangkok. Bangkok Airlines also fly from the first (Suvarnabhumi) - this is a large international terminal, the metro goes to it.

From the second (Dong Muang) low cost and nok air. There is a free shuttle between airports. It is better to take a taxi from the city to it. Airports are located at different ends of the city, but are connected by toll highways

    10) The bus network covers everything settlements. For long distances, comfortable buses with air conditioning, comfortable sleeping chairs and toilets operate. There are buses with individual multimedia entertainment systems or a massager in the back of the seat. As a rule, all routes lead to Bangkok. There are few direct buses between tourist centers. A variety of transport operates on regional routes: buses with air conditioning and regular seats, buses without air conditioning, minibuses, songthaews (a pickup truck with a closed passenger body).

Unfortunately, according to one of the statistics, the number of accidents on the roads holds the first place in the world. It is advisable to wear seat belts in buses, there are times when they fly off the road.

    11) There are rare strange cases of missing luggage or individual items from luggage. It is better to travel only on official buses, tickets for which are bought at the bus station at the box office. This will provide you with a guarantee of safety and responsibility for the loss or theft of luggage.

In tourist areas, tickets are offered for illegal charter buses. They are often cheaper. This is compensated by inconvenient transfers or the imposition of excursions or hotels upon arrival. These buses can arrive in places remote from the city, getting out of there is not easy. And it is in these buses that cases of theft occur.

    12) We were less lucky with trains. If memory serves, only five branches. To the north to Chiang May, to the south to Malaysia and further to Singapore, to Laos, to Cambodia, and so all sorts of offshoots and cores. Trains are running late. on a 12-hour route, they may be late by 6-9 hours. There was a case when a train derailed in the same place 6 times in 2 weeks. After a major overhaul for the opening of this section, the train derailed again along with the Minister of Transport.

    13) Bangkok is a name for foreigners. The Thais call the city Krungthep. Plan to stop in Bangkok for at least 2 days, besides the royal palace and Wat Arun, there are even alien sectarians!

    14) Farang is a name for a foreigner. Contrary to popular belief, it is not offensive. Applies to persons of European appearance.

    15) Thais are terrible nationalists. Foreigners will never be put on the same level with themselves, but this does not mean that they will put themselves higher - no, just as if on the sidelines. Europeans are treated well, in wild places they even idolize. Hindus, Chinese and blacks do not like.

    16) In matters of sexual orientation, absolute tolerance. In this country, everyone can define themselves to any gender according to their feelings, regardless of the presence of body parts or, for example, clothing. The classification of possible varieties is very extensive and one cannot understand it without a hundred grams.

    17) Contrary to popular misconceptions, outside the tourist zones of debauchery, the country is extremely puritanical. After drawing a picture with a breast on the federal channel, without any hint of erotica, a huge scandal erupted.

There are no sex shops in the country and all such products are illegal. If you are lucky, a foreigner can order a parcel from abroad or use the black market.

    18) There is a death penalty for drugs in the country. A tourist can be fined and deported for drinking, but most likely they will extort a bribe. There are round-ups in nightclubs and places with a bad reputation.

    19) There is no presumption of innocence in the country. That is, you will have to prove that you did not commit illegal acts.

Until now, martial law is in effect, giving the military and police almost unlimited power.

In practice, everything is so scary. Foreigners are only of interest to officers from the migration service, and even then only at the time of crossing the border or during visits to the office for those who live in the country. Tourists are of no interest to anyone in principle.

    20) Tips are not accepted in Thai places. In completely wild places, they won’t even understand why you left the money. IN tourist places you can leave a tip, but if you don't, no one will be offended.

    21) The rainy season is an amorphous concept. In different places of the country it is at different times.

Rain does not interfere in any way, usually it does not last more than an hour a day and mostly at night. You can and should go to Thailand at any time. Especially in the off-season summer, a trip can become several times cheaper, but not a bit worse.

    22) It's always hot in Thailand. Except in the far north in winter. However, you will definitely need one warm thing. There is an eerie glacier in airplanes, buses, cinemas and shopping malls. Always take a warm thing in such places.

    23) If in Bangkok they tell you that some place is closed and there is a holiday there today, don't believe it. This is the main wiring. You will be offered an alternative tour with a stop in the shops.

For the same reason, you should not travel in Bangkok by tuk-tuk. You are almost guaranteed to be taken to a store whose owner issues gas coupons to the driver.

    24) It is better to travel around Bangkok by taxi. No matter how strange it may sound, but if there are two or more of you, then the trip by metro will be more expensive than by taxi.

If you have the skill to make a serious face and poke your finger at the counter, then you will be taken at the official price. A trip within the aisles of 2-3 metro stations will cost 50-60 baht. A trip through the whole city if there are no traffic jams at 100-120 baht. My most expensive trip lasted 2 hours and 37 kilometers and cost 210 baht.

Taxis need to catch only that rides. A red light means it's free. If there is no light, then it is busy.

Guaranteed by the counter, you can leave special stands at large shopping centers. The queue is sometimes 10-15 minutes long. At the hotel, it is better to ask the staff to arrange a taxi. Then, again, you are guaranteed to be taken by the counter.

In Chiang May, the most affordable transport is song teo, here it looks like big red cars (you can’t go wrong) - for 20 baht you will be taken in taxi mode around the city center, picking up other passengers along the way. Uber and Grab also launched in Chiang May.

    37) Is it possible to go to Thailand with children?

Thailand is an ideal country for traveling with children. Thais adore children, and foreign children are so simply idolized. You will never be left in trouble and will be happy to look after your child anywhere.

You can often see that mothers take their children with them to work. To a massage parlor, hairdresser or shop. This is absolutely normal. Children do not interfere with anyone and children in Thailand can do anything.

    38) Contrary to popular belief, not all Thai dishes are extremely spicy. Eat great amount not spicy food at all. Absolutely, absolutely.

A tourist has practically no chance to distinguish a spicy dish from a non-spicy one. The only way out is to order another dish, some kind of pancake. The food is still worth every penny.

    39) In Thai, the stress is on the last syllable in a word. Foreign words (mostly the name) must also be pronounced with an accent on the last syllable, so you will be understood faster. I asked for a long time if there was a macro store in Krabi and they refused to understand me. But when I asked about the macro, they immediately told me the way to it. The same applies to popular stores 7-11 not seven, but sevEn

    40) You can buy a SIM card at any 7-11. Often they are handed out for free right at the airport upon arrival. Travel packages are almost guaranteed to have instructions in Russian inside. Or buy for travel.

    41) Thai names are long, complicated and incomprehensible to a foreigner. Therefore, everyone who works in tourism is represented by a simple and understandable name for a foreigner of 2-3 letters: em, pay, may, fight ...

    42) You are almost guaranteed not to contract malaria. Unless you roam the remote jungle for months. Although there is dengue fever (it exists even in space-modern Singapore), it is also carried by mosquitoes, there are no vaccinations and treatments for it, but no more people die than from the flu. There are more dangers in Russia.

    43) Snakes, scorpions, centipedes - there are somewhere in the forests. Sometimes they can be seen from afar, but they are more afraid of you than you are of them.

    44) Thais do not eat bugs, worms and locusts. This is entertainment for tourists and food for guest workers from Cambodia. Thais eat chicken and rice, sometimes pig. But cows are not held in high esteem, both with meat and with dairy products. Cheeses and sausages are a terrible delicacy.

    45) There is a separate tourist police for tourists. Tolerably speaking English and helping to resolve any domestic conflicts, look for forgotten things and lost documents.

Sometimes foreign volunteers who are registered with the tourist police and who speak different languages are on duty at mass events.

Use Thai directions (on business cards or in booklets) - AD. Scales are not observed on them, but simply indicated landmarks schematically in their own way.

    47) Thailand has never been anyone's colony. Although certain areas of individual cities are currently practically occupied by foreigners.

    48) In public places: in markets, parks, stadiums, railway stations at 7 and 8 o'clock in the morning, and at 5 and 6 o'clock in the evening the national anthem can be played. If all Thais stop or stand up, you should follow their example out of respect. Although you as a tourist do not have to do this. In the cinema, before the screening, they also play the anthem and show a film about the King.
